Mashing in a single malt IPA. One of my favourite commercial IPAs is a single malt IPA from 8 degree's North called full Irish.

6kg Minch malt
10g of Magnum @fwh
50g of bru-1 & 50g of citra @flameout
50g bru-1 & 50g citra dry hop

Yeast is CML Lax which is equivalent to WLP 001.

Will finish this later 👌

I brewed muntons flagship west coast ipa and the hazy ipa yesterday. All went well besides the tin opener breaking. Both in the brew fridge bubbling away this morning.

Really pleased with the turnout on the Irish stout this morning. Checking once cooled, I found myself in the rare and pleasurable business of actually having to add some water! A nominal 15 litre batch (actually 15.5), I added a litre of water and ended up with 16.5 litres @ 1048 OG, giving a BHE of a dizzy (for me) 76%!

I am putting it down to my revolutionary bag-prodding (tm) technique! 😃

Was buying some yeast from CML and saw they are now doing 1 Gallon (imperial) grain kits, so decided on a whim to give the Hibbs Irish Red Ale a try (£8.95 with the forum discount) not exactly the cheapest but not unreasonable for a 1 gallon kit delivered.

Kit itself is about what you would expect an instruction sheet which gives a full breakdown of the hop and grain bill (something which sadly a fair few kits don’) as well as the bag of mixed crushed grain, pre weighed hops, yeast and Irish moss. They also provide hop boiling bags which I thought was a nice touch. You do need to provide 100g of honey or sugar, as I have it to hand I‘ve opted for honey,

Brew day mostly went smooth though I kind of forgot the problem of using a 7L pit instead of a 20L one is you have a lot less head room and it boils much more rapidly so only narrowly avoided a boil over.

Overall got just under 5L at 1.042 a bit lower than I was expecting mainly I think due to having slightly more volume than I meant to I considered adding a bit more honey but in the end decided t9 add the yeast and see how it turns out.

Just bought the hazy IPA kit. Brew day on Friday so it can ferment while we're on holiday. Should be ready for the second batch of dry hops as we get back🤞

Made a batch of GH pale ale this morning. Ended up with just over 24L at 1.043, so only 1 point out and 1L over - not too bad

Strictly speaking the OG was 1995 - but that was the © date not a scale reading!😁

Daytime Brewing for a change.
Brewing a Cream Ale grist
93% low colour Maris otter
7 % flaked Maize

Crystal hops in the boil with a dry hop of moteuka. Yeast is M54 California Lager yeast. Hoping for a Lager like ale with a subtle Lime/floral citrus character 🤞🏼 Target abv of 5%

I'm having a go at the Gumballhead stuff. I've bought some Amarillo (over eight quid!), and melanoidin is near enough to aromatic malt, isn't it? Well, it'll be interesting to see how it turns out anyway!

This is also the first time I've done a brew with hops at First Wort (albeit not in great quantity). Well I guess it improves the smell at this stage a little!

Yesterday evening I put on a Juicy Session IPA. My second time to do this kit. Loved it the first time.
