I believe there are 6 Trappist monasteries, none of them are in the US.I'm drinking Spencer Trappist, which is an American Trappist beer. I wonder whether it has actually been brewed by monks. Do they even have monks in America?
Will have to check that out next time I’m heading over to DowningsThey have a place at Rathmullan as well. You need deep pockets to visit
Looks a bit darker than it actually is. My camera phone is rubbish, always produces a darker colour. I am sure the kids have messed with the settingsThat is a beautiful colour!

Next up; APA. A nice beer but not quite hitting the spot like the NEIPA did.
So it seems I’m out of date and new Trappist breweries have been popping up! Spencer seemingly became a recognised Trappist brewery in 2013.Apparently not*: Trappist beer - Wikipedia
Spencer is a genuine Trappist beer. Who'd have thunk.

Seen a documentary about that brewery was very interesting and the beer looked great. They're very protective of allowing use of the Trademark so don't dish it out willy-nilly.
It's brewed by Cistercian monks, for the benefit of the Monestary and charity so meets the criteria.
Tynt Meadow by Mount St. Bernard is the English Trappist beer and it's decent too.

A night in Crawley on our way on holiday. A nice pint of Leffe and a Punk IPA to start. If I have a few more Leffe I might be tempted to pinch the glass!
