Hi All

Just going to weigh my grains out and make sure all my gear is clean, I want to get an early start on this :D

5100g Pale Malt
180g Vienna Malt

Amarillo 6g @ 75 mins from end of boil
Centennial 14g @ 75 mins from end of boil
Chinook 8g @ 75 mins from end of boil

Amarillo 6g @ 45 mins from end of boil
Centennial 13g @ 45 mins from end of boil
Chinook 7g @ 45 mins from end of boil

Amarillo 32g @ Flameout 30 mins steep
Centennial 43g @ Flameout 30 mins steep
Chinook 43g @ Flameout 30 mins steep

23l target O.G. 1.055
EBU 55

2 Packets of Nottingham yeast

I was hesitant about using Nottingham for this until I discovered that Sara herself used it. That combined with the fact that Good Ed has done this brew a few times and he's more than happy with the results.
I just hope I can do it justice

Cheers Tom

No idea to be honest.

I asked Good Ed why he used two when he brews it and he said he was just follows the recipe as is......
His turn out rather similar to Jaipur which is a good thing as Sara based her recipe in it in the 1st place

Cheers Tom

Hi Tom

I made this brew a few weeks ago and I opened my first bottle last night and it has turned out superb. My best brew by far to date.I followed the recipe exactly and I wondered about the 2 packs of notty but I just chucked them in and it has turned out great.

I used northern brewer instead of the chinook.Good luck tomorrow I am sure it will turn out great.

Cheers

Mark

Hi Mark

I know Sara's original recipe used Northern Brewer but I'm sure they were a sub for Chinook anyway, as the Amarillo were a sub for Ahtanum. I did P.M. her over on Jim's but have deleted the message :(
Should be pretty close though :thumb:

Cheers Tom

Good luck with the brew, the Chinook will give you a bit of spicy/citrus flavour over herbal flavour of Norther Brewer. I'm sure it would be ok with just 1 pkt of yeast but I've always used 2 pkts as Sara's recipe. It's a top class beer and am just supping one I brewed at the beginning of September :thumb:

Thanks for the info Tom,I didn't know that about the different hops.I have just opened another bottle tonight and I am lovin it.

Cheers Mark

There's such a depth of flavour in Jaipur.
It's by far the nicest beer I've ever had. If I can brew something that has only half of the flavours of it I'll be well impressed :thumb:
Just having a glass of the Citra I did last month. It's still a mile away from Oakhams but it's tasting much better now there's a bit of carbonation in it. It does still need more flavour hops in it though

Cheers Tom

To tell the truth I have never tasted Jaipur.Up here in Aberdeen there is a lack of pubs selling real ale and the supermarkets only stock a few of the bigger names, but I saw a few posts saying how good her copy was and i was looking for a IPA recipe so I thought I would give it a try and I am delighted I did now.

But surely you get the freshest Brewdog from The Broch, just up the road :)

I know it's not exactly 5 mins away from you but do you get to Edinburgh often?

The pub chain Nicholson have seven pubs there and they have a tie in with Thornbridge so often have their beers on.
Fogive me if I'm telling you something you already know.....

Cheers Tom

Ha ha,I drove past the brewdog premises yesterday up in the Broch but I didn't have time to nip in for a quick look and acquire some of there ahtanum hops that they are hoarding. :D

I am not in Edinburgh much but will have a look the next time I am down.

Cheers

I think they are hoarding more than just Ahtanum, I blame them for the hop shortage here :)

Tell me about it, I've been trying to get my hands on some for at least 12 months. Naughty BrewDog, I do like their Punk IPA though :hat:

Cheers Tom

Only got 72% efficiency ( usually get 80 ). I did under sparge by about 1.5l though and used 75/25 Bairds/Crisp malt rather than my usual 100% Crisp :(
Getting fed up of using a sheet of voile to filter the wort into the fermenter after cooling though, I need to re-visit the syphon/filter thing I played with a while ago. Not got the bottle to start cutting holes in the side of my beloved pot yet :nah: I know it all settles out but I'm not happy about having a large percentage of break material going into the fermenter........

Cheers Tom

I am sure your beer will turn out superb despite your efficiency.I BIAB and I always get lots of break material into the fv but it always settles out,and I also crash cool it down to 5c for a couple of days prior to bottling and I find that really helps clear it up.

Cheers

I found that when using Bairds malt I have to add 3-5% more to my normal recipes. I won't be using it again and will stick to Thos Fawcett MO from the MM, although I should try Crisps.

Is your camera broken ;)

I'd love to be able to crash cool but I just don't have the room for a brewing fridge at the moment :(
I'm also looking forward to the Mrs getting her new kitchen with a large 5th gas ring in the centre of the hob. 30l ish of beer doesn't boil very well on the old thing we've got at the moment :x

Cheers Tom

I used Bairds ages ago in some mash kits and suffered from low extraction, not crushed enough I think. Did a side by side comparison between it and the last of the Crisp and the difference was significant......
Just finished a sack of Crisp Pale from Rob, good stuff it is indeed. Don't know why I bothered with the Bairds now :(

I'll take some pictures of my next brew day, I promise ;) Where's the best place to get an online picture storage account thingy?

Cheers Tom
