    Insulation for a gas boiler?

As joe says, partially covering with the makes a big difference. Without thinking, I used some of the foil backed bubble wrap stuff on mine. I can report that it melts quite quickly. Having said this, I ended up cutting away the bottom 2" where it melted and the rest survived. I Would also...

Hardy's & Hansons Olde Trip Recipe

Does anyone have a recipe for Hardy's & Hansons Olde Trip. I had a few pints in the "Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem" pub in Nottingham a year or so ago, it went down well with a pie (all 4 of them actually). I have never managed to find a recipe, it's a very easy drinking ale.

    Heater trays..

I am also running a heating tray controlled by an STC1000. Works a treat. The link below has some descent trays. I have not purchased from this company but I saw a post somewhere that suggested they could make the trays up to any size you want. http://www.twowests.co.uk/product/heated-tray

    Stella

I was working in Oslo earlier this year. The beer was over £11 a pint!! And to make matters worse it was rubbish. Obviously, I only bought beer on expenses. I would rather poke myself in the eye several times than drink **** beer at these prices.

    serving temp

I find that it depends on the weather and the outside temperature. When it's 30c , I will chill my beer as cold as possible. If it is a cold day, I do not even switch the chiller on.

    iBrew tap-a-draft versions

A cheap option is to use a 5L mini keg. A lot of the micro breweries are selling their beer in these now. You can buy a mini keg full of beer and then re-use the empty keg. Although the mini kegs are considered disposable they can be successfully re-used.

    Owning pub CO2 cylinders

Some welding shops may be able to fill one for you BUT most places will not touch them if they have not been tested recently. Got mine from Air Liquid. I had to pay £40 deposit on the cylinder but the gas is cheap and last for ages.

Oxiclean - does it matter what type?

You just want the oxi action without perfume/fragrance. I get mine from Wilkos.

How do you reduce a recipe

I use Graham Wheelers Beer Engine. Its free and once you enter a recipe you can change the batch volume to whatever you like and everything is re-scaled. It will also tell you how much liquor you need for the mash. You can find it on the link below...

    Herout Ciderie

On a recent short break to Normandy, we visited the MA Herout Ciderie. Although there was no tour of this small Ciderie, the lady in the shop asked if we wanted to see the caves, so we jumped at the chance. They were very generous and insisted that we try the very expensive 10 year + Calvados...

King Kegs - Are They Really That Bad?

I have owned king kegs for many years and can only report frustration. Getting a good seal and getting the floats to work was always a challenge. Over tightening the lids seems to cause most of the problems as the seals distort and on one of my kegs the lid jumped off the thread on one side...

    White Labs - Slow start!

Seems like using a starter is the is the recommended/best approach. I have never really bothered with the dry yeasts as I have always had such good results by just sprinkling the yeast on top. I guess the liquid yeasts take a little more care. Although my WLP002 was slow to start, it did...

    White Labs - Slow start!

Recently, I decided to have a go at using a liquid yeast for the first time. Until now I have only used dried yeaset with S04 being my tool of choice. I had read that for 40L I was going to need two vials of yeast, if I wanted to pitch directly without a starter. With the cost of buying DME for...

    Malt miller?

If its grain, I have had stuff delivered in 2 days before but 2-4 is probably the best guide. If its equipment then it may be a little longer. Used Rob a few times now and found the products to be top quality and shipping always prompt.

It was going really well - Until!!!!

Like the double Cooler, looks great. My cooler does have turned down inlet & outlet. The leak was about 8" below the rim of the pot but was spraying upwards in an arc and most of it was landing in the boiler. What are the chances of that happenning. Still kicking myself for leaving it alone...

It was going really well - Until!!!!

Sunday I started early as I had a Fullers ESB clone planned. The Mash/Sparge and boil had all gone very smoothly with an 80%+ efficiency, so I was very happy. I started my Immesion Cooler running and stopped at 80C to add a few more hops. When I re-started the water for the cooler I headed off...

Cornie arrived regulator on way BUT where to get co2?

I got my gas from these guys http://www.uk.airliquide.com/en/contact ... nts-4.html It's real drink dispense grade co2 so no worries about quality. The charged a £40 deposit and then the refills are about £15 for 14kg which has lasted me over a year already. They even deliver for free...

    Hop Strainer Why?

I have tried both in my boiler. Drilling 2.5mm holes in 22mm copper pipe worked really well and did not clog up. For my last brew I had a new boiler and made a manifold with cuts/slits. This became blocked half way through the run off. So, holes for hops.

    The Home Brew Twang

I was brewing from Kits for many years and have to say that the twang was usually detectable in varying levels. However, as others say, the quality kits like Wherry can give very good results. The key areas that I found helped kits peform well were: 1. Start with a quality 2 can kit. 2. Do not...

Muntons, Premium Gold Autumn Blush Cider Review

Mine took forever to clear as well. It did clear eventually, however I am sorry to say that the taste did not really improve much :|
