Thanks, yes - I checked the obvious things. Touching the lid of the FV the level in the airlock moves. There is still no activity, I will leave it until Monday - a full seven days, then time for the white wine yeast I think.
On Monday evening, I started my third Wilko kit - a Wilko Medium Red 30 bottle kit. The previous two being the white versions, both of which turned out OK. All have carefully temperature controlled at 22C and all have been rather slower than I would expect to begin fermenting. The instructions...
Last time I used them, before Christmas, I left a few spare plastic pipes soaking in closed bucket of Chemsan solution. Intending to use them last week, I took the top off the bucket and found the solution had become milky and the pipes had a sticky residue.
Not sure what to make of it, any...
We were battered twice today, with a calm, sunny period in between - N/W Yorks border, but no obvious damage. It was quite breezy continually from yesterday evening and still quite breezy now.
My late Novemeber 2019 5 gallon of Wilko white wine has been rather better appreciated/ enjoyed by friends and family than I anticipated, so now I have just put on another batch of the same, but with what I had left of the first batch in bottles and a pressing need in a few weeks to bottle batch...
I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice in regards to how to process beer and wine bottles once emptied?
At the moment, I'm giving them a thorough rinse out, then leaving them to dry before refitting the screw caps. The Coopers pet bottles dry out fairly quickly, but the glass wine bottle...
The problem with that and early release, is that it is intended to make them behaves themselves in prison to gain that early release. If things change so they serve their full sentence out, then there would need to then be a scheme hanging over their heads for adding extra time to their...
Wilko Velvet Stout.
I have not made any wine or beer of any sort for 25 years. A few short weeks ago, I got it into my head to have another go and looked for a bargain second hand kit to buy, which I found and had bought the same evening, complete with a Wilko Italian white kit for 30 bottles...
A noobie myself - I made myself a bottle drain, two halves of floor panelling, with holes drilled and spaced by one bottle diameter apart, with legs to raise it up by a bit more than the neck length of a bottle. That fitted a couple of tea trays side by side, to catch the drips. It holds around...
I've been using Chemsan for my past two /only two sessions, but my ordered test strips have just arrived. I mixed had mixed the Chemsan in a measured 10ml to 1 gallon tap water, in small plastic FV with a lid, filling a spray bottle from the FV. Keeping the FV lidded, except when in use. They...
My stout was racked to a clean FV two days ago, brewar's sugar bulk mixed in thoroughly, then immediately bottled into pet bottles and stacked in the warm. I can squeeze the bottles to check the pressures - they are all creating some pressure, but they are variable.
Once bottled - My Wilko Velvet Stout instructions say 'stand 2 days in a warm place, then leave in a cold place for 14 days.
I have just bottled, leaving the 2" of headspace and squeezed the pet bottles too, but should I keep them warm the 2 days or the 2 weeks?
The calculator agrees with 85g for 19L for stout, so I will go with that and the pet bottle squeeze method. Which means I will have to get my wine out of the second FV and in the bottle tomorrow, then tackle racking the stout in that one, to add the sugar...
Thanks all, that's a plan.
