Hi guys, swambo says she will get a me a wort chiller for christmas and was wondering if they are all as good each other or if anyone has a reccomendation for one specifically ?. i only brew in one gallon batches so a smaller one is fine, too fit in a 10 litre pot is perfect. also do they come with attachments that will fit most taps ? cheers for any help

For that size of pot I would make my own.

This is the copper pipe you need - selecting 10mm x 6metres is £15.95 with free delivery (if making one for a full size boiler/pan then 10metres will be needed):

This £6 pipe bender would be useful to neaten the tails up and over your pan side:

So for £22-23 you have your wort chiller - sized for your pan - you also get to keep the pipe bender so when you move to a larger pan/boiler you can buy a longer length of pipe and make another !

This video shows you how - just use the currect size pot/tube for your pan size:

You will need to add some rubber hose and fixings - you will likely have to add this if you buy a wort chiller.

wow, thats brilliant cheers mate

No probs, here are the bits from B&Q to add quick connects to the tails of the wort chiller and connect/disconnect your hoses for quick cleaning etc:

2 x Brass 10mm to 15mm couplers (you ditch the nut and olive from the 15mm side): http://www.diy.com/departments/plumb...m/34126_BQ.prd
2 x B&Q Blue Tap Connectors: http://www.diy.com/departments/bq-1/.../189833_BQ.prd
2 x B&Q Blue Hose connectors: http://www.diy.com/departments/bq-1/.../262127_BQ.prd

If using 9.5mm copper pipe then add some plumbers PTFE tape as the brass couplers are designed for 10mm pipe and my wort chiller was made with 9.5mm copper pipe. 5-6 layers of PTFE tape bulks out the width of the copper tube so the olive fits more snugly for a better seal once tighten up. If using 10mm pipe then you shouldn't need the PTFE tape.

I agree and I think you might struggle to find one worth the money. Making stuff is much more fun. How about some yeast culturing kit instead? Maintaining your own yeast collection adds considerable value to your brews. It cuts the cost significantly too. And it's easy. A lot easier than brew day...

You can't beat having somthing to make on Christmas day. I was kind of disappointed when my lad grew out of lego - I really enjoyed mking something together on Christmas morning while SWMBO got busy with the Christmas lunch.
