Black Forest Stout

Only 9 days old and I think it may be one of my best.

Had a grueller in work ..finished 5,had an hour of watering on the allotment...got a well chilled GH stout with brambling cross...so good! Down to around half a batch...another for the "to do" list...will use US pale yeast next time...

GH Saison, only my second AG. Not carbed up yet and v cloudy but hot and sweaty from digging a new border so figured if its good enough for the farmhands. Also whilst the missus out used my extremely limited DIY skills to knock up this board

to hold some of those cheap ebay taps.

I went on a tour of my local microbrewery (71 Brewing in Dundee) today. They have a nice little bottle shop and they managed to get in some bottles of the UK’s first ever Trappist beer.
I also bought 2 of their own beers - a Huell Melon Helles and a raspberry & lychee Berlinerweiss.

The Helles was more bitter than I expected and the fruitiness from the hop was very subtle. The brewery reckons the Dundee tap water has a similar chemical profile to Bavaria and it does have a pretty authentic mouthfeel so maybe I should get making some pseudo lagers.

The Berlinerweiss wasn’t as punchy or flavourful as I’d expected, especially given its pink-ish colour. It smelled almost like an IPA even though it isn’t heavily hopped, but didn’t particularly taste of much. Fruity and refreshing though.

This is a Kolsh that I got from a friend in a mutually productive beer swap. Very nice drink indeed and went down nice. The head didn't last all the way but most, so I can put up with that lol.

We’re up in Aviemore for a few days and I took a little trip to Cairngorm Brewery shop today (I won’t have time to do a tour because of everything else we have planned and because no under 8s can go on the tour for elf and safety reasons). For tonight and tomorrow I have some:
Cairngorm Gold
Trade winds
Sheepshagger’s Gold
Capercaillie
White Lady

I’ve had the top 3 in the past but the bottom 2 are new to me. All are pale or golden ales apart from white lady which appears to be a Belgian inspired wheat.

First a very much needed absolute thirst quencher in the form of a super chilled turbo cider! Now my founders all day IPA clone with falconer's flight...at 4 weeks in the bottle I can't complain!
