Off into Leicester today, not been town drinking there for years .
Hoping to find some decent beers en route.

Had a couple of beers today during a bbq. Now supping a double vanilla bean stout.

Hobgoblin clone, bottled 3rd December. It sort of got lost so only got around to drinking it in the last few weeks.

Have to say that AG beer (maybe all beers) carry on fermenting, long after the FG number is written in the Brew Diary. Even in the depths of winter, this one had the S04 chewing away.

Had to undo the caps (2L PET bottles formerly contained cider) overnight to vent some gas. Still carbed up again in the warm weather the last few weeks.

Oh, yes, as for the beer, very serviceable , slightly dark ale. If I were to revisit the brew, I might mash at a higher temp (than 65C) or include more crystal, perhaps.
 
A couple of bottles of Fullers ESB whilst I ponder my next brew (an attempt to copy ESB). Also discovered the labels on Fullers bottles come off beautifully. Hello bottle source!

Thanks - I have GW's recipe via 'Brew Classic European Beers at Home' that he wrote with Roger Protz.
Alas, it's an all-grain recipe, doesn't give Lovibond for the crystal malt and uses the old Fullers recipe with flaked maize. So I'm having to convert it into extract - I've asked another question elsewhere about different crystal malts for steeping and their effect on the brew.
 
All the GW recipes just say Crystal Malt nnn grams. Medium Crystal is probably the best bet. Back when GW devised these recipes, there probably only was one type available for Homebrewing.

Blackrock cider made to 20 litres with 6 litres apple juice and 400g lme. Fresh out the keg.. Lovely.

after a night shift I had to adjudicate between mrs doj and daughter cos they were going hammer and tongs at each other, at least they weren't having a go at me, but still!

best to take cover and have a few beers!
 
After last night I wasn't going to bother but a few hours graft down the allotment put that into perspective...GH Yorkshire bitter.

Spirit animal. cloudwater jester king colab, I bought this the other day after noticing the elder flowers where out. I've just nipped out picked some flowers and had a go my self. pitched the dregs of this into a gallon batc

Tonight it's a commercial one - Blue Monkey IPA. Quite refreshing and fruity and a good example of an IPA......but.......I'm not a big IPA fan. I'll be washing it down with something else soon....

Well it was last night, but had the thirst and the wife had gone to bed early due to our youngest getting up in the middle of the night the previous night.

Started with a Cloudwater DIPA V3.1 which was fantastic, decided to follow this with a couple of home brews.

First up had a test bottle of the Young's American IPA that had been chilling for a day or two, nicely carbonated and poured clear. Problem was (I'm hoping) that I think my palate was so overwhelmed by the Cloudwater that this didn't really taste of much :( Cold and wet though so mustn't grumble. Followed with a treacle stout, I'm sort of warming to this and maybe it's mellowing with age. Must keep some back for later on in the year and see how it is then.
