Sob! Sob! I've just drunk the last AG Northway PA from Fulstow by mistake!

Having bottled the Woodfordes Wherry I readjusted the shelves, tried a pint of Wilco Hoppy Copper Bitter from the KK (clearing nicely) and then picked up a bottle of Grape & Mango Wine to bring into the house for supper.

I opened the "wine", commented "It shouldn't be this lively!" when it went "Pfft!" and shortly thereafter realised that I had picked up and opened a bottle of beer that I was saving for a mate due to arrive in a couple of weeks.

The only saving grace is that it tasted lovely!

A very nice bottle of Stone IPA followed by an even better Stone Cali Belgie IPA - basically a very similar beer but brewed with a Belgian yeast.
The Cali Belgie was a delight with its more complex flavours from the Belgian yeast. I really must try to brew this style of beer myself but of course that will push me into the world of liquid yeasts.

Poured a full pint of the Hoppy Copper Bitter and it's clearing nicely.

However, the bitterness tastes a bit "metallic". I wondered if this taste is why it's called Hoppy Copper Bitter. Does anyone know?

PS

The Hoppy Copper Bitter is in the KK and the shelves are about full. Getting caught up on three months away thank goodness.

I just tried my bonfire toffee stout and I swear that thing could fuel a car
Still on the bitter side of what I'm hoping for but as it is for winter it has plenty of time to mellow out

I have a fellow brewer visiting in a couple of weeks so I'm trying to put aside a variety of beer for his delectation.

As a result, the Northway PA is nearly finished and with nothing else readily available I tried a pint of the Wilco Hoppy Copper Bitter out of the King Keg.

After only 16 days (10 days in the KK) I'm breaking all my own rules but I was nicely surprised to discover that it's nearly clear and the taste was remarkably nice for its age!

im quessing youve got a king keg with a top tap and a floating syphon, hence why its cleared so soon, if not then iv defo got to get 1 of these brews on the go nomnomnom

Yep! Top-tap King Keg. Had it for over a year now.

As per another Post on the Forum the cap-seal leaked but luckily at the same time Lidl were selling sets of diamond sharpening "bricks" so I just smoothed out the top of the keg and "Bingo" no leak and no reason to clamp the top on quite so hard.

So far I've only pulled the two drinkable pints off this batch but it's looking good! :thumb:

Yeah that cali belgie is really nice. Safale t-58 is supposed to be good for a Belgian dry yeast?

I recently used wb-06 in a white ipa and it turned out great. In fact I was drinking it last night.

So there is more variety and quality in dried yeast now, than there used to be.

A serious ingredient of bonfire toffee is black treacle so I thought I would post this here.

A couple of days ago in Tesco I bought what I thought was a tin of Tate & Lyle Black Treacle to spread on my toast.

This morning, when spreading it on my toast I noticed that it was more "runny" than normal and put it down to the warmer temperature.

However, having tasted something that was sickly sweet and only mildly reminiscent of black treacle I had another look at the tin and "bugger" I have bought a tin of something called "Limited Edition BBQ Black Treacle"!

It tastes vile so I would never use it in a brew and I can only hope that T&L scrap it after the summer and get back to their usual black treacle! Alternatively (and God forbid), this panders to the younger generation by being "sweeter" and we are going to be stuck with it in the future!

i would be intrested to install a tyre valve to check the pressure that builds up inside of the king keg as i am reaching the end of my ruby red and theres a shed load of pressure and head that its producing :D

t-58 is well behaved, if u want to turn the flavours on the fruity dial use mj's belgian ale.

as for what am I Drinking.

hobgoblin gold - £1 but yuech! standard hob gobby is better, if you want a golden ale Brains SA gold is better.

although our own brews will be more impressive :thumb:

I got some of these to try out on the MKs ...

There is another Thread on here that uses them in the cap of a King Keg ...

... or you can actually buy a new cap with a pressure gauge fitted.

Hope this helps. :thumb: :thumb:

Invited my fat friend round for a pint of my pale ale

Ooooh! Another man interested in Smoking!

I have a ProQ for hot smoking meat, something my Mum bought me for Xmas about ten years ago for hot smoking fish and a home make gadget for cold smoking anything!

Brewing and Smoking is a brilliant merging of two pastimes!

The perfect afternoon is to be sat in the garden, beer in hand, watching a thermometer and occasionally chucking a bit more wood into a smoker! :thumb: :thumb:

As a newbie to Brewing and patiently waiting for my first brew tonight will be a shepards neame Indian pale ale. Last night was a purity Ubu, very nice indeed,:thumb:
