Happy Friday. Just in time for Octoberfest I have just tasted my first bottle of Dick Dastardly’s Dunkel Hefeweizen. This is a full extract kit from the Homebrew Company.
Absolutely gorgeous. I’m delighted with the results.

Last night's commercial beet alongside a taste of all 3 current homebrews...

....A Dunkel lager from a collaboration between the company behind Tebay and Gloucester Services and a brewery in Penrith. It wasn't bad but more like a "Session Baltic Porter" than a Dunkel to my mind with more roasty chocolate notes less that dry-but-malty flavour. Very drinkable all the same.

Always stop there when heading to the SW but when there the other week, I was shocked at the prices of everything so we’ll probably give it a miss now which is a shame.
They are definitely pricey. I'm on the road a bit more with work and have stopped at Glos a couple of times recently. Not bought much - just the odd bottle of beer or cider - but it's a decent environment to stretch the legs unlike some places up the M5/M6.

Their cafe wasn’t too bad price wise last time I was there (for a service station) and if nothing else it is still such a nice change from your typical motorway service station.

Started the afternoon with @Donegal john first gold ipa, he warned me it was bitter, but after the first sip (which was a bit of a toe curler) it settles into a beautiful pint. The aroma from opening the bottle was full of marmalade, aroma from the glass a bit restrained. Taste wise, some English hop fruitiness, a little bit of sweetness followed by a long bitter tail. Medium bodied which makes it very drinkable. My only concern is what I'm I'm going to follow it up with! Thanks John, really lovely.

Cheers.
Lovely colour from the chevalier malt.
It’s mellowed but I think it would benefit from another month to round it out. The bitterness tends to linger on the pallet for a while though. Get some bread in you to clear your taste buds

I’m back home now. Just cleaned my beer lines and poured myself a pint of my Magnum Opus Best Bitter. This is the beer I brewed for the Attic competition using the new Opus hop. I doubt it will win because Attic are more about big hoppy DIPAs but it makes a nice bitter all the same. Cheers all!
