A wee break in Paris for youngest daughter to get a bit of experience with French. We found this microbrewery a few hundred metres from the hotel. The ‘Blonde’ tasted like a late heavily Saaz hopped pale ale and was quite good, the ‘Black IPA’ was distinctly odd - tasted like a charred black malt has been added to a noble hopped ale - erm no thanks - first beer I’ve left half of for a long time:

I did feel decidedly old though - neither of us quite fit the under 30 trendy vibe of the French ‘Pub’!

I put most of it into 330ml bottle's. Maybe 7 into 500ml incase I want to enter it into a competition. I had considered buying a 12 litre keg but some beers are better in the bottle
It's a conundrum. Hate bottling, however there have been times where I think that my Kegged beer is almost tasteless compared to bottles. The last one was my porter. The Hoppy beers like the West coast ipas in kegs have been excellent though .

That's exactly my thoughts, kegged beer tastes too clean in certain styles. I kegged a Belgian Dubbel and was not impressed at all.

I had bottled the remainder of this batch of stout and just tried it. The difference is night and day to me although that could be bias.

I have really got into West coast IPA lately which is a total departure from me being a dark stout, porter drinker but in my total inexperience I think that they are more suited to being Kegged and so far the darker beers are not??

I am assuming this will controversial to some but it's just my initial personal observations. Happy for some comments/suggestions.

@Pennine told me a while ago he didn't like kegged beer, at the time I was only bottling my beer. I can totally understand his view point now. Kegging is convenient and cool but I definitely think certain beers are better in the bottle.

I wish I was as cool as you kegging kids. ;)

After a day of fishing in a dam for silvers, back home to a bottled OSH and a kegged Standard brown porter. Is bottled better than kegged, hands down in my opinion, as is casked better than kegged. For me forced carbonation adds nothing, whereas gentle natural carbonation does.
First catch of the day.

I wonder if naturally carbonating the darker beers in the keg by priming with sugar and simply using the co2 to serve would be a better way to go ?
