Another guest ale. This one is a Doppelbock from @UKSkydiver at 5.5%

As I poured this one I was hit with the aromas of chocolatey roasty malt and caramel. The chocolate malt is punching above it’s weight here as it’s only 1.5% of the grain bill.

The beer is a deep red-brown colour and is perfectly clear when held to the light. The light tan coloured head quickly fell back to a ring of bubbles around the glass and then held the line.

The punchy chocolate aroma on pouring has backed off a little as I taste the beer. The flavour is rich dark malt like chewing a dark malted bread crust, there’s a subtle hint of prune, and a touch of alcohol but not strong. Soft, smooth mouthfeel and good medium-full body. Just a touch of tackiness on my lips from the higher gravity finish. Bitterness is mild. No off-flavours.

Another lovely beer, thank you!

Feeling sorry for myself as I have just gone on a 5 day course of antibiotics, so all this nice weather forecast for the bank holiday and I can't drink until Tuesday (ffs)

There are very few antibiotics that you should avoid mixing with alcohol - 5 quite rare ones if I remember correctly.

Google it (trusted sites like NHS!) and then maybe you can be happy ;)

Metronidazole is the main one. I can't think of any others that you should avoid alcohol with.

Metronidazole is indeed what it is and I was told both by the Doctor and the Chemist specifically not to drink or it will make me very ill.

Yep very long half life, takes a while to clear the system. In the past have sat there plotting graphs ahead of a big Weekend away.

I had a good productive day today so time to celebrate with a guest ale from @Benfleet Brewery This is a Kolsch at 4.7%.

The beer is a beautiful crystal clear golden colour. Carbonation is maybe a little soft for the style but despite the picture (taken a minute or so after pouring) it’s certainly not flat and I know this was bottled from the keg so I’m sure from keg it’s a bit more lively.

The aroma is mild malt, like soft white bread crusts. There’s also just a touch of spicy fruitiness, I’d say with a hint of apple. Otherwise very clean.

Flavour is nice, clean mild malt, just a hint of apple fruitiness, mild bitterness. Soft mouthfeel and medium-light body, finishing dry.

This is going down very quickly and very easily and I’d happily spend an afternoon in the sun with a few more bottles ;)

Really appreciate your feedback, thank you 🍻
