hmm i wonder? good catch though. ill try one of the others i brewed with pia to see if i get the same flavors. these are very much background flavors and not readily apparent.

tbh, Im deffo not an expert on lambic'sbut the descriptor 'barnyard' rang and little bell

found a bottle of a chinook pale ale i brewed with pia, will give it a head to head tasting tomorrow to see if there are similarities. granted both batches could be infected.

Trying my first Brett Belgian pale ale kindly gifted to be by @strange-steve. This is a total new style for me so here goes. This is definitely an acquired taste, it's dry as expected has that funky smell and taste from the Brett, I don't get any real hop flavour or aroma.
The beer itself is well made as expected the carbonation is spot on. Really enjoyed trying this beer, it's a style I wanted to try myself. It's not a beer your going to drink by the gallon, it has complex flavours that are to be savoured and enjoyed.

Thank you for sharing, I spent most of the beer smelling the aroma. Really strange but good 🍻

Yes, brett is certainly something of an acquired taste. The first time I tasted Orval (which I was ambitiously trying to imitate with this beer) many years ago I didn't like it at all, but it's now one of my all time favourites. Thanks for the review :hat:

giving my chinook pale ale a shot to see if i get some of the similar flavors as yesterdays beer. both were brewed with pia. this one i dont get the hay and barn as much but do get the earthy flavor. chinook is quite the hop in a pale ale, tons of pine and resin initially and back of the throat spicey at the end, almost like a mild shot of whiskey feeling.

i wonder if the pilsner gave me the hay like flavor and the barn came from the cascade, based on some other beers i think i got a bad batch of cascade hops from MM.

or the chinook is completely overwhelming it.

hmmm not the answer i was looking for.

Cloudwater A Gentle Nod to Welcome Visitors Modern Barley Wine (9%)

This is one of those premium beers that is actually worth the premium, downside when I decided to stand up,after finishing it you could tell it was a 9% beer.

I’ve made one or two beers using chinook that have taken their time to condition - how long has it had?

bottled on 15/2/20, seems to be at its prime actually. dont get me wrong, it is an excellent smash beer, but definitely changing as you mention.

Cloudwater are based in Manchester, they do a lot,of NEIPA’s and iPA’s, this one however was a Barley Wine, has a very heavy slightly sweet taste hops are certainly present but it is by no means a hoppy bear flavour is far more driven my the malt and I suspect it has had some mango and orange added to it. It’s a really genuinely lovely beer the kind of one that I know I will be ordering a few more of,

Hopsteep Verdant go on sale tomorrow morning 10:30am, there's a completely new beer and a new version of 'I will need a signature'. Set an alarm 😁
My other half granted me permission to buy a few but our investor login isn’t working ☹️ Had to email them. Guaranteed they’ll sell out again by the time it’s sorted

It was too sunny out not to have a beer this evening so I poured myself a wheat beer...

Then I got excited and decided to give my American barley wine it's first taste.

I wasn't disappointed either, I think this'll be incredible once it's had time to age. I'm getting earthy pine from the Chinook, and tonnes of orange from the Amarillo. Slightly sweet toffee, and a slight hint of ash too. Warm alcohol, but nothing harsh, which is dangerous as it's over 11%.
