Going by the bjcp guidelines as I'm not that au fait with a dunkel.
Pours with a decent head which lingers. Darker than bjcp states I would say, almost stout black rather than the copper to dark brown.
Not much of an aroma, but bready, sweet,nutty and a definite spiciness to it.
Flavour, definitely malty, with a bready chocolatey aftertaste, not much hop bitterness. But cheating and looking at the recipe you can definitely get the northdown hops.
Medium bodied,moderately carbed, perfect for this beer.
It's a nice beer, not my favourite but I could definitely drink a few. Not sure if I can spot this flaw that you spoke about.....
Hope that isn't too harsh, I did enjoy it make no mistake, it's just a bit meh (in a nice way) if you know what I mean.
