Thinking About Going Over To Cornys.

A few questions...
Does your beer have to be at the "crystal" stage before you put it into a corny?

I went over to cornies at the beginning of the year and haven't regretted it, best decision I made. It doesn't have to be crystal clear, it will settle out in the keg a bit so the first pint or two might be a bit cloudy but should be fine after that.

And the quality of your beer will increase massively. The fact that it’s stored under c02 and doesn’t oxidise while conditioning is so much better. Bottle vs keg is night / day in your mind.

You won’t regret it. Only the fact that you will need to buy more [emoji6]

Been discussing this a bit on another thread, so for well carbed beers, do cornies need to be served from a fridge/ kegerator to have decent carbonation and avoid foam. That's the only thing putting me off.

i can store them cold but would want to move them into the house to serve, so they would be sitting out for a bit at room temp, with a mini reg and gas capsule, in the kitchen while in use?

first cornie I had and used for about 5 years I used to gas it with an S30 valve set in the can cap as that's how the lhbs set them up with a sparkler tap set in the plastic collar,this proved to be a pita firstly because there wasn't enough length in beer tube from post to tap only about 8 inches of 3/16 beer line and secondly the S30 gas bottles cost me an arm and leg by regularily sticking open with ice crystals after use and couldn't stop the loss of most the gas even by dipping in warm water and at £5 an exchange refill was challenging my pocket very frequently,so guys if youre going the cornie route A,get a pub bottle and regulator and B, a tap with a longer length of beer line,then expand your system if finances allow to at least 3,you wont be sorry you went the cornie route eventually:thumb:

I started with the refurbished starter kit from malt miller. Had got everything you need to get going, except for the co2. David Heath has got a good video on YouTube about kegging too [emoji3]

looks nice and neat, which would go down well with my wife.
But maybe I am trying to run before I can walk, thinking about getting this kind of thing before I am even familiar with Cornys.

I felt a bit like a fish out of water when I started using corny kegs but they're not as scary as I thought. As soon as you know what goes where and what bits of kit you need they're a doddle, I'd never go back to bottling now. If you build your own kegerator you can do it for just over £100, that's what I did, 2nd hand fridge and some taps from China.

Looks good but my Mrs is against it as she thinks I will become an alcoholic , and doesn't want it in the kitchen.

To get into cornies, I've been looking at this as it's less volume.

Haven't heard any feedback yet though so don't know how good they are

The yanks use pinlock cornies more than us,its just a preference of mine for ball locks as the spares are much more easy to find in the UK,as for screw in or barbed quick disconnects I went barbed a big mistake as they are a pain to run sanitation through your beer line when cleaning in between brews,far better the screw on as you can take them off the quick disconnects unlike crimped on barbed ones

I would definitely go threaded disconnects, I screw on John guest push fittings which are top notch. You can also easy unattach the beer line from them and wash them which is a bonus.
