Help a student out - stupid question ...

Hello,

I am currently working on my Final Major Project at University, and I have chosen to re-brand and re-develop Corona beer. I have been working on it for around 6 weeks so far, and everything is going great, just one problem.

I have 40 Corona bottles, and my plan was to fill the bottles with lemonade, add a touch of yellow food colouring, and put simple crown caps on to make it look real (we're not aloud alcohol on the university premises).

The problem is, I cant get the ****** crown caps to go on. I have tried pushing the sides down, I've tried using a teatowel to push it down, and I have used pliers to try and force it down. It either doesnt move, or comes off very easily.

Just wondered if you could give me some tips on what to do.

Never used one but it will work. Just more hassle than the 2 lever one as you have to use mallet. Im sure ebay will have cheap 2 lever cappers

Yep, you need a hammer or a mallet to bash them on; how's your technique?

If you like the idea of hitting a glass bottle with a hammer then yes...
me, I'd go with the handled jobbie.

corona are thin bottles if I remember rightly so don't use the hammer or you will have a trip to ER when the one you are hold shatters into you hand.

Get a two lever jobby.

Another vote here for the two-lever capper.

They are excellent and last for years (my current one is well over 10 years old and I must have capped four or five thousand bottles with it).

I'm with the others, get a crown corker (capper). Hammers and glass are mutually exclusive I think.

Thanks a lot for the replies. I have bought a 2 lever bottle capper from Wilkinsons for a tenner, worked amazingly.

I shall be uploading pictures within the next week, once everything is finished and finalized.

Technically, I'm sure my university probably didn't allow alcohol on the University premises (the union pubs were the property of the students union, and not the university) - which probably explains why the students were seldom seen at the Uni, but the pubs were extremely busy :lol:
