But for almost all of those 15% it is "just" some loft insulation which is not a particularly big or complicated job to add, it's not like adding cavity insulation. It's going to be what <10% of the cost of the project?

And as I keep saying - radiators being "not up to the job" is just not a thing any more.

Cost is always an issue - but it's getting sensible at last, qv Octopus saying that the average install in the UK now costs £5.5k and 90% of their installs are less than that, and they start at £500.

There will always be outliers, but at least we're in the range of being feasible for a large proportion of the population (given that replacing a boiler has always been a financially crippling job for many people).

The problem as I have already said is there is too much misinformation about, you are obviously clued up those that are not which is the other 99% of us will have to rely on installers that have only just finished their HP installation course for begginers there are going to be a huge number of bodged installs like the one in the video and until the price comes down to the equivalent of swapping out a gas boiler I can see the government not hitting their targets by a country mile.

Of course - in the same way that EVs are not right for a non-negligible minority of the population. But we have the same problem of misinformation - which is probably worse for heat pumps, we don't have Top Gear for home heating - which makes the ordinary person think that this is something that works for 10% of the population rather than 90% (or whatever the numbers are).

But it's just a slow job of getting the message out there about eg high-temp heat pumps producing water at the same temperature as gas boilers so you don't need to change your radiators.

And don't think I'm any kind of evangelist, I had been holding on with my old boiler for heat pumps to mature and become affordable, but unfortunately it packed up a year before that really happened, so I ended up with a new gas boiler.

If the government are really so keen on green issues why dont they give us all solar panels and solar water heaters we could then pay them back over time for the install etc from the money we saved monthly.

Totally agree want to talk about debunking myths solar is the biggest one why every new property (where suitable) is not mandated to fit solar panels at build is beyond me, this tied to battery storage in every suitable application would release a huge strain from the grid and would help to run heat pumps or EVs. There has long been a myth that solar needs hours and hours of bright sunlight.

They have started doing this in our town and these are not new builds.

They are, via the grants I listed above. The only thing they don't give is a battery to store energy.

I notice there are a number of energy suppliers who are now doing heat pump tariffs which gives another saving.

See if you are eligible to the grant I posted on the previous page, it will cover all the cost, and you can add a battery at your own expense.

I qualify for no benefits whatsoever - don't start me that a separate rant I work full time pay a large mortgage on house big enough for my kids to stay when they want, on top of that pay the ex wife maintenance for the kids as they live there most of the time. She gets multiple benefits, maintenance is not means tested, so delights in telling me how she can afford a new car and 3 holidays as year as my maintenance payments cover that. Her disposal income after paying all her bills is 4 times what I have left.

So basically if i wanted Solar or Heat Pump I have to foot the bill in full.

On that basis I am out as much as i would like to simply cannot afford it

When was the energy rating done? Mine is a D but a few years old and apparently the scoring system changed.

Oh & if you need the EPC for a grant, you tell the bloke doing it and he may help target that. Eg insulation is as good as economically possible, but need to replace storage heaters with heat pump in the conclusion.
