    Priming with treacle

Rob, great idea thanks for that. I did notice that when testing there was a lot of grease over the outside of my turkey baster, what I use to get a sample (of beer)! Obviously this is from the pudding but will this cause any problems? A google search seems to show that Young's may to a...

    Priming with treacle

I remember having a pint of christmas pudding beer in Wetherspoons many years ago and loved it, not seen it since so thought I would try and make my own. A neighbour gave me a kit that they said they wouldn't use so I thought I would try and make a christmas ale with it (as the kit cost me...

    Cooling down

I used about 10l of mineral water in each as wanted the bottles as PET demijohns, this was at room temp so I think this is what has done it. The stout instructions said to use 3.5litres of boiling water which obviously also increased the temperature. Lager is at 24-25 and Stout 27-28. I know...

    Cooling down

Hi, Today I have started a Youngs Lager kit and an EDME Irish Stout kit. Whilst I think everything has gone fine I am waiting for the wort temp yo drop so I can pitch the yeast. I have no way of cooling it down quickly so can I leave it overnight and pitch yeast in the morning? The FV's are...

    Wilkinsons

Hopefully they expand the selection in my one as it has never been the biggest. The nearest home brew shop I have come across is in Coventry market and whilst the selection is fairly decent in comparison to wilko's the bloke that runs it isn't the most helpful/friendly!

    Spray Malt

Hi, A really simple couple of questions I am afraid! I have picked up a light and dark spray malt and plan to use these in my next lot of brews. They will be going into a kit (lager and stout) do I simply use the 500g of spray malt and another 500g of brewing sugar? Do they really make they...

    Wilkinsons

Hi, May well have already been mentioned on here (if it has please feel free to delete post) but have been to my local Wilkinsons today. They seem to have a bit of a sale on some of their home brew stuff. From what I could see they are moving a lot of the Young's stuff under their own brand...

Would this work as a boiler/hlt?

Hi, I have been comparing it to this one http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/ag-equipm ... oiler.html which spec wise seems pretty much the same albeit over 7 times the price! With regards to the timer I have watched the video and it seems to show that the timer function can be turned off (about...

    Stuck tea bag wine

Hi, A good few months ago I started a couple of fruit tea bag wines (see signature for flavour). Both have been fermented down to 1.020ish and I can not get them to shift. I have tried shaking to get things going, adding more yeast and nutrient, have put in water bath with aquarium heater but...

    Fermentation Bin Lids

Hi, Planning a big brew day soon using some kits I have had for a while. Couple of months ago I bought a 25l storage bin from Amazon (these if the link works! http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004478Q0G/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20) but it didn't come with a lid although it was described with one...

    Orange/Grapefruit WOW?

I have done a WOW with grapefruit juice and white grape juice had the first aged bottle last weekend. I thought it was bloomin' awful! Mother in law said she liked it but I think she was being polite. Either it's my taste buds or something is wrong with it. It will be aged a lot longer as it's...
