Hi,

Anyone got any tips on how to get the metal collar off screw top wine bottles. Finally started to make proper labels and bottles look great (imo) apart from the metal bit!

Thanks

Hi 82,get a small screwdriver & push it between metal & bottle hold bottle & driver with 1 hand & tap top of driver with palm of other hand. The driver should smoothly move down splitting metal ring as it goes, carefully unwrap metal from bottle & bin it.
Sounds complicated but Very easy in reality. Ken.

John wayne used his teeth and removed top of bottle !

I use a pointy nut pick thing but small screw driver or knife will do. Start at the top and get it under the collar then lift and it rips. Be careful to keep your hand holding the bottle away as you reach the bottom.. As you get to the last 1/4 inch stop and peel it back. The last bit will tear and you can remove it.

I use a pointy-tipped kitchen knife, pushing down - insert and twist, they rip quite easily.
This, but as always be sure to cut away from you as I've had the knife slip sometimes. Thankfully not much pressure is required to get these off.

Thanks for all your help. Got some wire cutters to start it off and then flat head screw driver underneath to tear down.

Bottles looking much better just hope it tastes as good as it looks!

I've just done 20. They took seconds using my short bladed boning knife.
Slip it in, cut up and it will cut through all bar the crimped bit at the top.
Open it up where you've just cut and that top bit just pops open.

Nip it with a sharp, pointed scissors. May need to do 2 or 3 nips in the same spot.

Chuck Norris just puts all the bottles together stares at them and threatens to do a roundhouse kick and they all fall off

No seriously just slip a pointed knife under the edge whilst pointing the knife away from you and it will split the metal and tear off
