Hahaha! This genuinely made me laugh out loud quite a lot - nice!
By the way, those fermenter taps (and the little bottler is just an airlocked tube attached to one of these taps) require 25mm holes. I use a 24mm drill bit and screw 'em in for a tighter fit, but you could just as...
Thanks for replying - yes the Bruhaus is cool and I've ordered from them before with hops and stuff too to make the postage worthwhile, but they are in New York and it soon adds up.
It's okay though, I managed to source some of this stuff, which is pretty much the same stuff, kind of, ish...
Told you it was just a bigger shiny bucket.
Seems to work though!
Once this lot has cleared the fermenters and I've got round to cleaning the kegs (ewwwwwww!) and bottles (aaaarrg!) then I'll brew again - this time a tried and tested recipe - Dark Garden Mild.
Tally Ho! wipes me out I'm afraid, but I do like Old Ale.
Tubby's Old Ale is actually stronger than the Tally Ho!, but should have a more rounded, mellow flavour than the barley wine once he's finished conditioning it, I would imagine.
For a bit of fun, I've taken a quick video of the initial fermentation with all the break material flying around and uploaded it to the Boxshed website.
It's actually a heckuver lot more lively now, but I was surprised that it took off so quickly this morning after such a lousy, cold night...
All the best with it -your place will smell terrific when those Styrians go in! (a good moment for a drink, I would think...)
That IS big for an old ale!
I always think of October 1st as Old Ale day as it is when Adnams ship theirs out to tied pubs, followed by the rest of the country. I'm...
Thanks for the kind messages, and many thanks to anyone who offered me advice and equipment over the summer. Cheers.
I've now posted up all the details and photos from this brewday if you'd like to check them out - please excuse all the mess in the Boxshed!
I'm just pleased all the equipment...
The upgrades aren't very fancy highway! I'm just using a larger stainless steel bucket and bigger elements, that's all. let's me double brew length though, which is very cool.
Rah! Going very nicely thus far, and the new boiler is the absolute business.
I've taken some pictures, albeit only with the iPhone, and will stick some up at some point, definitely.
I used a three stage batch sparge with equal volumes, nothing stuck in the mash, runnings went smoothly and the...
Blimey, I'm brewing! Wooohoooo! The upgraded Boxshed is go!
Lots of updates later. Unless I really mess up and can't type through the tears...
Mash on!
Nice pictures all!
I spent this weekend harvesting hops from my own three plants and they're now drying away nicely.
If you'd like to read all about it and see some photos, I've now posted it all up on my blog.
Had the summer off from brewing entirely, but back to finishing touches to new setup this weekend.
Certainly looking shiny - whether it all works is another thing altogether though...
Garden hops make brewing very cheap indeed. I made golden ales, milds and bitters with my fuggles and goldings last year for diddly jack squat, other than the toil of looking after the plants, harvesting the cones and drying 'em, which was a pleasure.
Things have really moved on for our WGV, Fuggles and Bramling hop plants, which are enjoying masses of sun and rain
I've posted an update with a couple of photos if you're interested...
Huzzah! I've finally posted up some photos of my boiler brewfacturing adventures. I have had it boiling full of water for a couple of hours and all is well - a brewday beckons. I didn't write a guide to building one of these things - Vossy and others do it properly, so copy them - but if...
