Guess what? It only bloody works! I filled it with water after my latest round of trying to tighten and seal the immersion elements and it held. So I calibrated the sight tube up to 56L (it goes into the John Guest elbow at that point) and all was still well. So I plugged in one element (satisfying noise and bubbles) then the other into a seperate socket (more noise and bubbles). It took an hour to turn 56L of very cold water into 55.5L or boiling water. The last 25c took 20 minutes, which is the important bit. The cables and plugs stayed cool. The joints didn't leak. At some point I will post lots of photos of badly cut holes and stuff to to show you if you want.

Now I'm now off to the pub to drink Hophead and remind myself why I'm doing all this!

Woohoo!

Great news ft
Remember to tighten the element nuts after the first few brews until they're firmly seated, then you shouldn't have any more worries :thumb:

Nice one five

Good advice there from Vossy about tight nuts ;)

Bring on the photographs Fivetide...bring them on I say! Trying to cobble together the holesaws required for cutting a 50ltr Beer Keg at the moment myself so I'm sure I've got lots to look forward to....yikes!

Yes, sorry to be so lax in the photo-posting-ness. Lots of problems in the non-brewing world. I also have some nice photos of my hop plants.

I aim to post some proper updates before next week - the boiler does work, anyway!

Huzzah! I've finally posted up some photos of my boiler brewfacturing adventures. I have had it boiling full of water for a couple of hours and all is well - a brewday beckons. I didn't write a guide to building one of these things - Vossy and others do it properly, so copy them - but if you're a bit cack-handed like me, it might reassure you that brewfacturing is possible!

Please check it out!

Had the summer off from brewing entirely, but back to finishing touches to new setup this weekend.

Certainly looking shiny - whether it all works is another thing altogether though...

I know this is bringing up an old thread but can anyone tell me in this picture

Has fivetide fitted his immersion elements by putting them through the hole and securing them with one of these

a 2 1/4" flange?

That just seems too simple to me? Am I missing something?

Cheers
