It is a big beer for me
But it's got to age for a year ;)
To be honest the plan was for it to be even bigger

But I bottled out

It was a slow sparge and now one of the elements in the boiler has stopped working  but it's boiling on one element now :D

All the best with it -your place will smell terrific when those Styrians go in! (a good moment for a drink, I would think...)

That IS big for an old ale!

I always think of October 1st as Old Ale day as it is when Adnams ship theirs out to tied pubs, followed by the rest of the country. I'm pretty sure Adnams Old is about 4.1%, however.

Likewise, December 1st is Tally Ho! day (and December 2nd is an ibuprofen day...)

I have the Durden Park Recipe for Tally Ho! (1887) down as one of mine to brew . . . . Its a bit stronger than the Adnams one though ;)

More pics,

In goes the Tate & Lyle

In go the Bobek flavour hops with the cooling coil

Tally Ho! wipes me out I'm afraid, but I do like Old Ale.

Tubby's Old Ale is actually stronger than the Tally Ho!, but should have a more rounded, mellow flavour than the barley wine once he's finished conditioning it, I would imagine.

Unfortunately due to time constraints and only one working element in the boiler I couldn't reduce the length down to 23L :(
So instead of 23L @ 1.079 I got 29L @ 1.064 :|

Not as strong as expected :(
But more beer than expected :)

Last piccies for now

Aerated ready to go

A lot of used hops

Not surprisingly, given the amount of yeast pitched, 3 hours later she's fermenting :D

Oh and I forgot the copper finings too :(
