    Brew kettle

90 deg apart sound good, should give ever so slightly more stirring action than 180.

    Homemade budget ventilation system?

My +1, right idea you just need wider, 100mm duct is the way to go like the folks say.

    little brown pump

It might be the pipe you are using. 10mm water pipe is bloody difficult to coil without kinking, even with a bending spring, and even if you anneal it. Refrigeration coil is the way to go, it is way softer. The technique for winding without kinking is to really pull down on the pipe as you wind...

    little brown pump

You may have spent 45 quid but what you have is a small cheap pump with a 2m head. I don't think you can expect too much in the way of performance. If you don't want to keep spending money on pumps maybe you should get rid of the dog.

    little brown pump

5m is quite long, perhaps longer than necessary. Or maybe your coil is too narrow or kinked which is making it hard to push the wort through. Another possibility is that your grain bed is getting compacted - are you leaving 10 minutes before starting to recirculate? Perhaps other people can...

    Tubes/hoses/connectors

I have switched to marine drinking hose or whatever it's called and it wasn't that pricey. Also means I can leave the garden hose lying around and getting full of spiders and don't have to bother putting it away. :)

    buckets and kegs

White PP is usually near enough food grade for me. HDPE is a bit softer - I would be worried that old buckets would harbour bugs in the nicks and scratches. PET is the least permeable plastic of all, hence its use in pop bottles, but is usually clear.

    12v Solar Pump

I have one of the 20/20 solar pumps from solarprojects.co.uk *and* one of the cheaper tan pumps from BuyInCoins. They are not identical but look fairly similar on the outside. The 20/20 is the 14W model so it has a bit more oomph for going uphill but other than that I haven't noticed too much...

IEC output from PID to kettle hot condition

IEC connectors and sockets are generally limited to 10A. Ambient temperature is a concern (connecting wires to a hot element) and the easiest way to deal with this is to avoid using a power inlet on the boiler end and instead have a heat resistant flex (e.g. butyl rubber 2.5mm2 for 3kW...

    NTC/Thermistor connectors

XLR patch cables are shielded which is a nice feature for analogue sensors. Phone socket type connections are cheap and easy of get hold of.

    Drip Tray

That's the way I would go. :thumb:

    UK pump suggestions

I also use the solar pump (SP20/20 14W version) and was thinking of getting a second for water transfer - there are identical looking cheapies on ebay with a lower power rating.

    DIY Beer Crates

Let's have a look then. Jimmy those are the dogs.

head up my **** with what to buy / make?

BIAB is an easy way to start, and if you don't like it you are out the cost of a brew bag, which is to say, nothing much. Personally I got tired of BIAB pretty quickly but I'd still recommend it, just the same as I'd recommend brewing a few kits to start out even if you think the dark side will...

    Cleaning beer lines.

I looked up in the MSDS what beer line cleaner is, and its basically concentrated KOH (pH up) with maybe some sodium metasilicate aka TSP substitute.

    Very old COS

Good point, it would need very thorough aeration. There are some flavour changes associated with extra pressure. The pH goes down from the dissolved CO2, and you get more diacetyl but less fusel oil. Can't be all bad because this is how most commercial beer is brewed. You need to remove the...

Temp control in a fermenting cupboard

Probably OK, I have been mulling using a household thermostat myself. Can you program both the turn on and the turn off temperatures to avoid wide temp swings? Mine can do a minimum of 1 degree but you can set it to °F and I would be happy with a dead band of 1°F. Also you are stuck with...

    gas problem

I've got a big tank of nitrogen someone left me (used for diving or something), was planning on putting argon in for welding but I wonder if it would be any good shoved through a stout at 50 psi :hmm:

    Very old COS

I'll ferment under pressure then push it out through the beer line into a second sixtel. I serve out of sixtels so I have more than one coupler. Possible advantages of fermenting under pressure might be: * no contact with air at any point during fermentation * natural carbonation * don't need...

    Inline Filter - Food/Temperature Safe?

Is the quality any good? Sometimes I have had crappy threads on SS from Chinese ebay suppliers.
