Getting a bit excited 3rd brew

Yep. Must admit I'm getting a bit excited at the progress of my 3rd home brew. Used yeast nutrient at the advice of a friend. Epic. Never had activity like that. Tested a sample for ABV then placed sample in the fridge to try the crash test advice given on here. Low and behold 24hrs all the...

Plans for 3rd brew. It's all from your advice.

Thanks Terry, Think I just had it in my head that after 2 to 3 days of adding hops it HAD to be bottled. Cold place after hops it is. And a nylon bag.

Plans for 3rd brew. It's all from your advice.

Hi all. 2nd brew finished after a total of 6 weeks, rushed admittedly but the fermentation finished in 3 days!!!! Going from advice from everyone on here, I'm excited to get started on brew 3 using some advice from everyone on this forum. I have a new fermenting bucket, with a tap, the tap...

    Filtering after adding hops

Thanks terrym. I think a sack for the hops might be best although I seem to remember reading that the flavours distribute best when added directly. A nylon mesh sock, would that be finer a filter than a pillow case? I'm thinking, 1. Pillow case. 2. ? 3. Coffee filter paper cartridge

    Filtering after adding hops

Hi all. Some great advise on here so firstly a big thanks to all. So here we go. Brew 2 complete, a Young's American IPA. I'm contemplating how to filter out that hop debris. The hops are supposed to go into the brew just 2 or 3 days before bottling or adding to the keg for the final 2 weeks...

    New batch. Wot no bubbling

Still a bit concerned about this beer. Very few bubbles if any from air lock. Are we suggesting that fermenting IS taking place ? And all is well.

    New batch. Wot no bubbling

Thanks. Bonus of these Young's kits it that everything is measured out ready for you. I'm a beginner so perfect for me.

The FV is full of beer. I ain't turning that bad boy upside down.

    New batch. Wot no bubbling

Seemed solid enough for a fit. Clicked on tight. If I press down on the lid, it bubbles the air lock so does this not indicate a tight fit with no leaks else where?

    New batch. Wot no bubbling

I will mix up with sugar into the keg then immediately siphon out with the tap on the keg into bottles. From there they can sit for 2 weeks. This brew has had just 5 days fermenting so far... Never seen a bubble from the air lock. Odd. Just hope my brew is ok. Smells good.

    New batch. Wot no bubbling

No worries. Googled it. The tide mark shows it existed but it seems it's settled with no further krausen

    New batch. Wot no bubbling

I'll have a look when I get home. Excuse the amateur response but. Krausen? What's that? Looking at the bucket there's a definite tide mark from where the foaming has settled post mixing. The starter SG reading was 1.052

    New batch. Wot no bubbling

Hi guys. After quite a successful 1st attempt at home brew and some great help from the forum here, I decided to jump into batch no.2 It's a Young's, American IPA. Mixed according to instructions, same as my successful amber ale 2 months ago, but after leaving the mix to ferment on Saturday...

    New brew. Cloudy. But YUMMY

Had 2 and half weeks 1st ferment, 2 weeks +2 days in PB with sugar. Just bottled some with 1/4 teaspoon sugar. Tastes good. Not too worried about the cloudiness but from what you say, I should leave it a little longer. I did filter between 1st ferment and moving to PB. As there was a lot of...

    New brew. Cloudy. But YUMMY

Just a quickie for a newbie brewer. Brewing complete, thanks to all who left advice leading up to this day. Tastes great. Should I be worried that it's a tad cloudy. Free of particles, just cloudy. A little clearer than hoegarden. 👍👍👍
