The obese cabinet minister has turned down vouchers for hungry kids. Marcus will keep the pressure on and will make the Tories do another U turn. Their judgment is totally ****.

He shoot's! He Scores! Well done Rashford! clapa

No 10 to extend school meal voucher system over summer holidays for England in U-turn prompted by Rashford campaign
The Downing Street lobby briefing has just finished. And No 10 has announced a U-turn on free school meal vouchers for pupils in England during the summer holidays.

And just so there's no doubt prior to the U-turn “The Prime Minister welcomes Marcus Rashford's contribution to the debate around poverty,” said the PM's spokesman.

We have to have debate about whether to feed children or not?

To be honest i don't mind governments that U turn it shows they are willing to listen to the people and admit they were wrong.

You'll never get a government to U turn with kids. He's attacked them and their defence is all over the place.

I never really liked the Premiership, I always thought it was full of self opinionated footballers. However, Mr Rashford’s opinion, based on his own childhood experiences is one that I can listen to all day.

I listened to his interview on the radio i think he has taken a lot of the stigma out of using food banks which is a good thing so well done Mr Rashford (just in case he pops in to pick up some home brew tips)

I'd largely agree - but this government seems to be choosing some really strange hills to die on. This holiday meals thing was a tiny amount of money in the global scheme of things, so why be so vehemently opposed to it before the U turn? I wonder if it's just ministers being so scared of the central power that they daren't make any policy without checking it with HQ first, but there seems to be something fundamentally screwed about the way decisions are being made.

I read it was about £110M about the same as a fighter jet. Your right though, they're picking some strange battles to fight. First Cummings now this

And I think I'd seen that half of the money was already en route via the support for councils. This piece from Tim Montgomerie, formerly a key ally of Johnson's doesn't tell us much we might not have guessed already, although it's an interesting point he makes about the role of his ex-wife Marina in providing an intellectual backbone for much of his adult life. It's an interesting alternate reality to think about in which he's still with her.

"Johnson recruited from a pool of people who either believed in wanton national vandalism under the banner of ideological delusion, or were happy to countenance it to advance their careers. It is not a coincidence that such a team has struggled with the complex challenges raised by a pandemic."

"When the qualification for joining the government is loyalty to bad ideas, it is no surprise that Britain is badly governed."

Incompetence is a built-in feature, not a bug in Boris Johnson's government

I hope so as they were voted in to run the country for a set term and deliver Brexit covid -19 doesn't change that.

One thing I do hope is all the labour idiots who lent them their vote are the ones doing the most bitching about them now they deserve everything they get.

Would they win an election if one was called today?

The polls say yes.

However, I read a piece the other day that it took Maggie Thatcher six years to get to a similar postion that it's taken BJ six months to achieve. He's got another 4 1/2 years to go. I reckon the Tory party will have 'knifed him' by then

Oh they certainly will. Wait till all the redundancies come the end of the furlough. Unfortunately it's going to decimate the north, and them with it
