Yep - I need to lighten up...chill out... HAVE-A-GLASS-OF-WINE even!!!! Stand back a bit from the (in some case) almost regimental instructions, and not get nerve headaches (daft bat...) and start to enjoy the whole process.

Enjoy ya Sunday,

As I mentioned, I'm new to this game, where my beer is concerned Moley's description of kit brewers is me, wait for two sample to be the same on back to back days.

Thing is, I've developedd this chilled out attitude to wine / cider making, I blame the forum ;) and am simply chucking 'stuff' into a DJ with some sugar and water, occasionally honey or golden syrup, and waiting for the bubble to stop, then waiting another week or three to be sure it's stopped before racking off.

I'm enjoying wine making a lot more than than I am beer making, I just hope the results are much fun when they are ready in a couple of month's time :)

If the DJ is full sterilise the hydrometer and pop it in. No wastage at all. :thumb:

You already have a testing device which only needs a sample of a teaspoonful - your tongue.

Get a pack of 'value' drinking straws from any supermarket, usually around 30p for 100.

Take a straw, dip one end it into the wine, suck the other end. Withdraw straw from DJ while you are still sucking to ensure that none of your mouth contents fall back down the straw into the wine. How much (if any) sugar can you taste? Is it ready for racking or do you replace the airlock and bung and give it another week? Throw the used straw away. Simples.
The oldstout method :thumb:
