I will kick it all of with @Donegal john tropical stout 7.5%
Great looking beer, well carbonation but not fizzy, jet black with a lasting head.
Aroma, dark fruit and sweet dark sugar, minimal roast
Taste is very similar, really nice, dark stone fruit. Nice mouth feel, low bitterness but not sweet
For me this hits all the style guide lines, this is probably the best beer that you have swapped with me. Unfortunately my effort is not of this standard 👏

That’s high praise indeed. I do think this will improve over the next few weeks but I’m happy with it. No idea what a tropical is supposed to taste like never having had one but it’s a nice beer. There was no added sugar in this one it’s all malt as I didn’t want to push it past the 7.5 mark.
Cheers Sam.

I wasn't going to drink until tomorrow night but seeing as @samale has kicked things off, I'm joining in!

@pilgrimhudd Tropical Stout 6.5%

A very faint hiss upon opening. As i started to pour, I thought it was under-carbonated, but a little height increase in the pour gave it a good tan coloured head which was very creamy looking. In my opinion, it's actually perfectly carbonated - style guidelines say that this should be moderate to moderately high carbonation.

Aroma was initially fruity, then chocolate and roasty hints.

Flavour was also an initial fruity hit, followed by chocolate and coffee. I employed the help of my wife's better sense of smell and taste to help identify the fruit and get her ideas on flavours. We can't identify the fruit, possibly redcurrants or raspberry, but definitely a little sweetness of red fruit. She also gets the coffee and chocolate.

Very creamy mouthfeel and the aftertaste is a nice level of dark chocolate bitterness.

This is a fantastic beer - I can't fault it at all. Well done @pilgrimhudd 👏 I look forward to you sharing the recipe!

Dragon Stout is available in Tesco in Britain (although not sure about Irish branches). Worth a look if you want something to compare it with.

Oh wow, thank you for that very kind review. I'm glad you enjoyed it! The recipe was nabbed from an American website, I'll find it and share it later.

I deliberately underprimed my bottles in this one as I worry about my beer being flat, so I'm glad it worked out here.

I haven't had one in a few weeks so I'll give another one a go tomorrow night. 👍
