So santa would like to know what I would like for Christmas and I really need a decent bottle capper. But I don't know whether to ask for a bench capper or a wing type one.

So what is the general consensus as to which is best? Or is it just a case of personal choice? Or is either style good as long as its a decent model?

I'd be interested to hear what you think...

I've no experience with a bench capper but from what I've read I'm sure the majority off cappers will recommend bench

I've the wing type but will make the upgrade myself very soon

I've used the Wilko one for years. After about 5 years they wear so buy two and when one wear buy another. They're about £10 each.

Bench...

I also have a Wilko hand capper but it's a two person job if the work surface is wet and they leave indents in the caps..

As everyone else has said, a bench capper (and some g-clamps, if you’re not going to fix it permanently to a countertop) for sure. Bottling’s long and boring enough as it is but the bench capper will get the capping done in half the time at least. I’ve got one of the cheap sub-£20 ones and it’s more than adequate.

I’m moving to a bench capper, my fat hands managed to break two bottles and crack another last week. There is no positive clunk.

One of these. I average under 2 seconds a cap and line them up as the next bottle is filling.
I've had one of these for the past 4 years, must have capped a couple of thousand bottles with it and it's still going, though it's showing its age, so I got one of these:

It's incredibly sturdy, but it does take a little longer to cap each bottle than the wing type.

I think either type is fine as long as you spend a bit and get a good quality model. I've heard only bad things about the cheap plastic wing cappers.

Thanks all for the replies, it looks like a definite consensus that a bench capper is the way to go so I will see what santa comes up with ;)

So santa came up trumps with a bench capper and I have put it to use for the first time today. So easy to use and a very satisfying clunk as the caps seal tight. Thank you to all who suggested I get one athumb.. IMG_20200117_113155.jpg

Excellent that's the same one I have I like the kinda pop it gives I always twist the bottle and give it another go I reckon it doesn't need it but I like to make sure
