When I tried doing the customised kit I had to use a few different pans as none were large enough and due to not having a hop filter all the hops I put in just soaked up most of the water and it was one big clump. So both hop filter/strainer and big pot are on my list as even if they are glorified kits it's nice to do your own invention.
Also with the kits a larger pan would allow me to boil all the water they need in one go rather than filling the kettle few times over or again using more pans than I want.
