I went food shopping today and as usual bought a couple of beers that looked interesting. This one is a Summer Ale from Shepherd Neame. Grains are pale, crystal, cara, oats. Hops are centennial, saaz, challenger.

It is nice but not special, it’s quite malty with good bitterness, and some spicy citrus notes.

CML Tropical England (fermented with CML Hornindial)

Hops are a blend provided by CML (listed as Jester, Olicana, Godiva, Mystic & Archer) and it’s just a nice refreshing Summer beer, very minimal bitterness which isn’t that surprising as mostly late hop additions plus a dry hop. Fruity flavour and all round just a nice beer.

My parents live in Conwy, but alas, I've never found the Conwy beers to be that good.

Looking at the background, are you overlooking the golf course and out onto the Conwy mountains?
No in Penegoes and in the distance on the right is Machynlleth Golf course often populated with death defying sheep!

Photos won't load so need to be more descriptive.

First beer after a simple bbq dinner.

Duration - Bet the farm 4.5% continental pale ale.
Light, crisp and a slight funk to it from the double pitched yeast. Slight floral from the hops. Very nice and easy drinking .

Sometimes a beer just suits the mood and tonight thats Tropical England. What actually suprised me with this one was the dry hoping which was added at the same time as the yeast (per the instructions) and it worked really well makes me tempted to try adding the dry hops immediately instead of after five to six days on other beers.

Elderflower wine slightly over carbed if anything now but still delicious

Now having another Hook Norton offering, Off the Hook IPA while preparing supper - Korean bbq sauce marinaded frying steak, new potatoes and green salad
Interesting mix of UK ( Admiral, Challenger ) and US hops ( Chinook, Amarillo ) , nice malty bitterness
with orangey citrus aroma and taste.

You’re taking advantage of bio-transformation there. It needs the right kind of yeast and the right kind of hops to work well (hops containing lots of thiols). If you dry hop with the wrong hops or yeast then fermentation will blow away much of the aroma you get from dry hopping.

Look into thiols. You could just search on this forum for “thiols” posted by me. I’m sure I included a link or two.

I poured this, SWMBOd's opinion was "OK, but I want mine poured clear" .
Her wish is my command :

The rest of her tin fitted comfortably in the space I had made available in mine:

Nearer to France than London!
