I didn’t get to post yesterday because we had the family and a couple of friends round for Father’s Day. I was serving beers and doing the BBQ until quite late - I’m sure that as the father everyone should be running around after me?

Time for an Altbier in this blazing sun while waiting for the sparge to finish for my latest batch of English Bitter.

The boil is well under way now and I’ve cleaned the BBQ after yesterday so my reward, a soft creamy stout.

@Donegal john gave me a couple of these a while back and I’ve been waiting for the right time. Nice crisp dry lower alcohol IPA with a bit of tartness. Falconers flight is a great hop to balance the tartness with, with its soft citrus flavours. Very enjoyable, and perfect for an after work tipple. Thank you John!

Was meant to be having two weeks off the beer. Down just over one, finished my run of on call and the hot weather as driven me to the bar. Saw a pilsner looking at me when I opened the fridge so just necked that.

Nice and refreshing but lacking the crispness that I needed. Bit lively also

This from Saturday evening.
A big gathering of close friends to say a final 'Farewell' to a recently departed good mate.
In his mates squash/ ski / sports club bar in Watford.
First up was a 3.6%er Side Pocket from the Tring Brewery. A good bitter take on a fresh hoppy tasty pale ale. Fruity with a dry backbone.
I liked it so much, I came back round to it later.
Next up was this Youngs London Original 3.7%.
Tasted like a proper Youngs bitter to me.
No idea where it's brewed now, certainly not in Wandsworth!

Last real beer on the bar was Wadworth's 6X. 4.1%.
I haven't had one of these for a decade or more.
Very clean and balanced bitter.
A very safe beer.
So I went back to the Side Pocket.

On to tonight's little tipple.
Bohemia Regent traditional Czech dark lager.
Would you believe that this is the first dark lager I have ever tasted. Ever.
It's good in a Porterish way with gentle caramel and darker roasted malt flavours.
Reminds me of an old-style Hobgoblin ale before they mucked around with it and made it unpleasant.
Oh - it's BBE is 17.12.'21.
Yes, more of the catching up beer stocks.

Also had this in the sun. This was very special. Loads of complex flavours. Sweet Berry, into sour and finishes with musky.

I started with a Belgian Single and now having a stout.

Initial pouring:

After a recall from Siren via Beer52 of this nitro stout, I had to root it out and deal appropriately with it. Apparently the batch was contaminated with very low level of 'diastaticus' brewers yeast. Some exploded apparently. Mine hadn't luckily. Only 4.0% for a stout.
Lots of interesting roasted and dark malt flavours, apparently enhanced by the use of, "bourbon barrel maple syrup oak chips (yes that's a real thing) ".
All I know is it poured fine, the can the recommended way - upside down! It only settled a little before drinking commenced. Also don't know about the bad press on nitro stouts, this one is a goodun.

Today I kegged a premium bitter and scavenged the last of what was left in the fermenter to drink now. I did pick up a bit of yeast from the bottom of the fermenter unfortunately so the beer has a bit of haze but it’s still very easy to drink.

Tried out a Czech pils 2... It's a bit too green so dumped it.
