This is a lovely dark colour with a rich chocolate head which diminished relatively quickly but remains around the glass as I drink it. There is a toasty sherry-like aroma and the taste is smooth roasty chocolate. Very well balanced, at 6% this is too easy to drink! Love the colour, flavour and toastiness. The only thing for me is that it is a bit too carbonated, it leaves a sparkling sensation in the mouth which takes away some of the smoothness, but of course this is personal taste. If I remember rightly from one of Hazelwood's posts he had a bit of an incident bottling this up!? The great thing about this being bottled from a keg was no sediment And of course carbonation can be adjusted to personal taste in a keg anyway. Well since it is stout night I started out with this one which is or was amazing. Highly recommended if you are in Belgium. Although this one is about 6 years old.

Now I am sipping on this one, not quite the flavour garden as the cuvee delphine but this one is absolutely no slouch. Really impressed actually, it's a solid offering.

Really nice and smooth despite being 10.5%

In with the Hazelwood dry stout...
Nice, gentle carb,instant coffee aroma. It's had time to warm up while I fettle a load of pizza dough...smooth as a cashmere codpiece...to coin a phrase.
I'm getting a soft vanilla mixed with more coffee and a tiny hknt of dark bitter chocolate then an almost creamy texture to the dry finish.
I could sink a few of these...

I had a Green Gecko from Lidl and it was effin gorgeous. The problem is that sometimes they're amazing, sometimes they're pure crap.
Then had a Stateside IPA from Aldi - can for 99p 330ml and it tasted like it was exactly the same beer. It said it had citra, nelson sauvin, galaxy - all the expensive stuff.

Then I had a Banks's Bitter which I've really been enjoying but those one was absolute crap. No hop bitterness, maybe slightly less carbonated and slightly fruity tasting. Clearly a bad batch. I'll send them the batch code and see what's what.

I drank them all when I was out shopping because I'm keeping up the pretence of Dry January.

Next one from the Lidl box. Same abv a bit higher carbonation and a bit more boozy taste but a good Belgian quad. Must brew another Belgian of my own as I forget how much I like them

The neighbour I made the Pacific Ale for dropped in 2 beers to try and a bottle of my own Pacific Ale, which I thought was overloaded with Galaxy.
First a Crankshaft, first sip was fine, the rest sickly sweet, it was like a poor mans Tower 10 the hops were just not enough to balance out the malt.

Second was Wolf of the willows IPA just a bog standard AIPA which everyone seems to make. Nothing to see here.

Next the over Galaxied Pacific Ale, quite surprising how much the hops have mellowed out, not at bad drop at all now.

Next a Porter this is the first Brown Porter I have made in 3 or 4 years while I regularly make stout for some reason I have neglected this simple tasty porter.

Finally an ordinary bitter 6 days in the bottle, just to see how its travelling taste is there but very green.

Thanks @Hazelwood Brewery, I put the second half aside for an hour and that was much more to my liking. I could taste the rich caramel chocolate and lingering malt flavours. Went down a treat with our haggis this evening

I was tempted to follow Clint’s lead and have a stout next but instead chose my German Pilsner. It is nice but I much prefer the Czech Pilsner at this point. The German Pilsner is rather more soft and smooth than crisp and dry. Not sure if this is because it hasn’t cleared yet or because I need to change the water profile. Time will tell - if I don’t drink it all before then of course!

I did the jump from Belgium to Russia with an imperial stout that’s been in the keg for 5 months now and is a beautiful drop. Dark roast and malt forward with magnum and cascade

Mine is 6 weeks old today. Last time I tried it, it was like some devil blend of pitch and napalm, flavoured with hazelnut - so not all bad!

I made sure I had plenty of quick brew beer to avoid temptation (that and a keg of very strong choc chip and marshmallow stout donated from a local brewery that was ready to drink)

Mine is 6 weeks old today. Last time I tried it, it was like some devil blend of pitch and napalm, flavoured with hazelnut - so not all bad!

Had a few try’s of this a few months ago and it made it easy to leave it alone as it was far too bitter and boozy and easy not to like. It’s into its own now but not great for a Sunday night with work in the morning
