This! Great carbonation and a super fluffy head. From the recipe off He's brewday I get about 45 IBU which is bang on where I like this style of beer..aroma is as expected, tropical fruit with a lovely caramel and slight biscuit from the malt.
I really like this...pity my garden is cold and snowy as I'd like to sit out in the sun with it...
Would you believe I've just weighed the grains and prepped water to brew this tomorrow!
Thanks for sharing H...NOW I know what all the fuss is about!

As threatened...
Opens with a nice "pssst" and a massive bubblegum/candy aroma.
Now,as some will know...I don't drink many Belgian beers so was a bit apprehensive about this...it's a sipper..but very moreish. Very rounded flavours..in fact layers of flavour, then a dry finish...but a perception of sweetness maybe from the aroma. I detect a bit of what I'd describe as yeast character and at the end a subtle alcohol warmth. It's complex but not a muddle if that sounds right.. opaque, light straw, thin white head and lots of lacing...then you realise how strong it is!
I think I might have a crack at this one! Maybe later in the year and keep it for Christmas...
I can't judge it against "style" as I don't drink Belgian beers..but it's a "LIKE" from my uneducated palette!
Thanks H!

See, everyone likes a Belgian in the end! 😂

It would clear if you left it for a few days but I quite like it with the yeast.

First real taste of my 1864 Lovibond XB. and I'm really happy with it. Thanks @Cwrw666 for giving me the heads up on this one. It's essentially a SMaSH of Pale Ale malt and Goldings- as is Hopback Summer Lightning, but there the similarity ends. It's rich and floral and almost fragrant. The high IBU's are not apparent, except perhaps after the finish, where you need another swig to quench your thirst. An amazing and dangerous drink (mine ran out at well over 6% abv as I don't like sweet beers very much, but there's no lack of body) light and fluffy in the glass and very easy to neck down. I'd recommend the recipe. I'm off to get another, and schedule a full-scale batch for later in the week.

Joining the party with a pint of @Hazelwood Brewery Sweet Stout

This is a lovely dark colour with a rich chocolate head which diminished relatively quickly but remains around the glass as I drink it. There is a toasty sherry-like aroma and the taste is smooth roasty chocolate. Very well balanced, at 6% this is too easy to drink! Love the colour, flavour and toastiness. The only thing for me is that it is a bit too carbonated, it leaves a sparkling sensation in the mouth which takes away some of the smoothness, but of course this is personal taste. If I remember rightly from one of Hazelwood's posts he had a bit of an incident bottling this up!? :laugh8: The great thing about this being bottled from a keg was no sediment athumb.. And of course carbonation can be adjusted to personal taste in a keg anyway. Love the informative labels too athumb.. Cheers @Hazelwood Brewery acheers.
