I lied, so sue me!
Back from the pub car club night and couldn't resist a half of the discovered Golden Delicious clone at the back of the garage.
Either it is too cold or I over bittered it with Challenger.
Or maybe the Goacher's Best has given me have a sweet tooth (crystal in it).
Can definitely taste those fresh hedgerow EKGs from over the road, though.
Probably would be better as a first pint thirst quencher.
Plenty left to try that out, fortunately.
Shame there's no more halves left, it'll have to be pints or quart bottles next time I sample.😉🍻

Been working my way through the Tiny Rebel advent calendar. Their cryo hop triple NEIPA was ******* near perfect.

But last night I tried my rochefort clone. Lots of rich date and raisin flavours up front with a chocolatey aftertaste. Dangerously drinkable for a 10% beer.

Having my golden ale hopped with Ernest & Crystal

Hi @dave_77, Great that someone else is brewing with Ernest.
Was it the can you had that inspired you to brew with it?
I have encouraged its use since discovering it is grown about 10miles from me, Hukins farm High Halden so I went there to buy them, and their Challenger.
Where did you source yours from?
I got a apricot flavoured richness from it.
I have just done a second brew with less of the bittering hops, Challenger which I did over boil with the first one, and what I meant to be a 10min. addition of Ernest got boiled for 40 mins as well before the flame out whirlpool Ernest were added, so way too much flavour and bitterness overall.
I calculated it out at 74 IBUs.
Everything dialled down for this later one, including the boil time!

That's a lovely bright yellow beer, did you use Ascorbic acid (vitC) like Hazelwood Brewery suggested recently to retain the brightness of the colour?
And is that a good combination with Crystal hops, (never heard of them before) how did they go together?
All the best, in Ernest,
531Man. 🍻

Well deserved beer for moi, as I’ve been slaving away as a brewing and cleaning wench all day!

I think this is well worth 99p from Aldi, and it has carbonation that you can actually see and that lasts! I hate beers with piddly carbonation!

Enjoy! Then back to the scullery!

It was partly inspired by No Frills Joe's pale and recent use of Godiva and Archer.
Alot of the new English hops have been marketed as something that could work in the same way as American hops but some people have been disappointed.
I think alot of these new English hops suit a light UK beer like a golden ale or something like a session Belgian pale or saison .
I have been fairly happy with the beer so far..maybe could do with a little more hops, saying that it's probably got more hop flavour than a typical golden ale.
I decided to go with Crystal to have something with a floral spice to go with the Gooseberry flavours.

So we have next our @Hazelwood Brewery tripel. We are perhaps drinking it a tad early, but we couldn’t wait as it looked too inviting!

First of all I love the golden colour and the carbonation. I am getting a banana aroma - almost a cooked banana, and a clove on the taste as expected.

There is a slight bitterness that is very pleasing - also you wouldn’t know it was 7.6% if you weren’t told! Always too nice to stop drinking them though!

We are very grateful to be sent three beers to try - very generous and we’ve enjoyed each and every one. Many thanks H!

Ah! That’s the wrong ABV (forgot to update that bit on an old label), it’s 8.1%
