Eldest just turned 16 a couple of weeks ago and has completed his quasi GCSEs today. He'll be fine and will get mainly A**s but it has been a stressful time with the old covid one nine. I left a few cans of Camden Week Night lying around for him to 'steal' for the after school rite of passage in the park and he has come home a bit pished but full of life. I ordered him a large kebab whilst the rest of us had a Thai. I have slunk back to lock up the brewery and found this hidden under a pile of lesser used speciality grains. Glad its over.

Fair play. My wee girl is the same age. It's been a difficult year 👍

Never seen the attraction to sour beers. Just can’t understand them and my palate can’t equate them. Wife likes them though. Won’t ever be brewing one

I quite like the idea of something fruity and tart but most often they are intensely sour and draw your ar*e up to your elbow. I almost feel the need to brew my own so I get something nice!

My youngest is 16 and we have let her do the same as all her friends are 18 due to her being an early starter at school and the Irish school system that allows kids to do “transition” year which is basically a year before a levels where they do a lot of flaffing about and no schoolwork. She went out with a few cans of cocktails and came in unable to shut up. The next time we had a drink in the house with family all her older sisters and her mother were in bed and she was still drinking kopperberg in the kitchen with me. It’s a slippery slope lol

** footnote**!
I was not drink krappyberg just her I was drinking gin 🤷‍♂️

True that. My missus is a secondary school teacher and even she has struggled to work out how they will be assessed etc.

Hopefully your bairn is different to the lassies he was on about who all turned up with ginties which they were topping up with vodka. I guess for usvit would have been 1 tin of spesh and a four pack of supermarket own brand lager.

Yes @Donegal john see my previous post. I've been fortunate enough to work with a lot of ladies from Ireland, mainly via Queens in Belfast and they all get their arms behind their back.

@Horners @samale ours are the same age - twins going through these s*1t "assessments". 5 weeks of daily tests in lieu of exams hasn't been a fun time for any of us. Daughter has been overwhelmed by the enormity and finality. Son has been a rock and more bothered for his sister. Both are sleep deprived and spaced out. Offered my daughter a taster of beer last night and she gladly had a mouthful, but no more.
No idea how well is going as it all feels so hard.

Moved on to my black IPA, this one is very hoppy and more-ish

The way it is being done down here is they have continuous assessments in the form of exams every week or so this past few months and then they also get to sit their traditional exams they can sit as many or as little as they want and then they get to choose the higher of the final grades which is a pretty fair way of doing it I think but it doubles the work on them and double the stress.

Anyway it looks like a wet old weekend in South London so with slim prospects of spraying the fences in cuprinol tomorrow I'm treating myself to what may be my long term favourite beer. BTW @cushyno where you based?

North West - West Lancashire, but originally from Northumberland, so have a soft spot for McEwan's - a bit of an old favourite. Good choice with the champion!

Yep I think they'll all end up with their best possible grades. People will get agitated about grade inflation but noone will give an eff in 2 years time. I'm in charge of graduate recruitment for a big city firm and we really don't care. As long as current grades give them opportunity to do the A levels or specials or whatever then it all starts again in 6th form.

This was up next. Haven't had it in years and don't remember being a fan.

Two sips and it was down the drain. Disgusting stuff. On the water, trying to cleanse my insides

Forgot to add a photo. It was brew dog Elvis juice.

Good man, I'm a dyed in the wool sandgrounder but spent quite a bit of time in Carlisle where McEwans reigned supreme.

Have you tried the McEwan's Headspace yet? Not as long term good as champion, but still very drinkable for a Scottish ale.

I've not even seen it. Out of pure nostalgia though, I always get 4 tins of McEewans export whenever I'm at Euston heading up West Coast Mainline to Liverpool or Wigan or Preston or Penrith. In the day it was pretty much all they had in the buffet car and it has stayed with me. #classinaglass
