Wow I thought duval triple was good this is exceptional what a beer the fruitiness hops I would guess on sazz, what a beer think I will getting some more View attachment 37105
It's been a while but is a very good tripel. I saw it at tesco the other day. I will pick up a bottle to try. I can see coriander but I have no idea what cardamon tastes like.

Next an alcopop ;)

I have been re-acquainting myself with a few so called strong beers on offer from Tesco at the mo. They are all fairly similar but in order of preference.
- 1698 (I've passed on the free yeast)
- King Goblin and Old Peculiar (slightly different but about the same ranking)
- Adnams Broadside (which I am drinking at the moment but won't be getting any more)
Anyone else been doing the same and if so how would you rank them, given we are all diiferent?

I have been as well. I really really enjoyed the old peculiar. Then 1698 then Broadside. it's been a long time since I have had a king goblin, old crafty hen or Abbott reseverve so I will hold out on judgement. I think the reserve might be my favorite though.

I think I've had them at all one time or another but can't remember them unfortunately. Fuller's 1845 and Mcewan's Champion are the most recent strong ones I've had.. both good, really liked the Mcewan's.
oh yeah good call mcewans is delicious, I will look around for the 1845.

Oh I have had innis and gun the original which is also very good.

Thanks Steve, nice review again. Your opening paragraph made me smile!

I have to say I also prefer lower levels of carbonation but gassy is what people seem to want (or is this just with those tasteless lagers?).

I’d offer you another one in a couple of weeks but by then I’ll have a Tripel, a Doppelbock, and a Russian Impy so you’re gonna have to choose - you can only get three in a box:confused.:

Thought I would ask this here instead of filling SS's thread up with banter.

Where do you typically get your recipes from? You have brewed quite the variety lately.

A cup of tea when Mrs Clint finishes trying to dissolve herself...
I'm on my "4off" now so it's Saturday next for me...then I got my days off do it'll be "4on (the beer?" Then I got two day shift to contend with then off til January 4th...then my two PBS,the advent box...another box Mrs Clint informs me she ordered from Honest Brew...and crates full in my shed...it's been a **** year I shall wave goodbye to through bleary eyed...

I only have about 8 bottles of this gumballhead clone attempt left and I it really isn't growing on me. Not sure if it's the wheat or Amarillo that seems a bit too harsh. It probably needs me to leave it alone for another 4 weeks.

Mostly trial and error but also informed by looking at BJCP descriptions. Like most people that have been brewing a while I have a sense of what *should* work and I’ve learned through experience what doesn’t 😂

How long you been brewing HB?

Ah yeah that's what I do too. It's a bit difficult to know what should work these days with all the new hops, malts and yeast available to homebrewers. Although the possibilities are endless so I shouldn't complain.

I have been struggling a bit lately with stouts and dark beers. I have had 4 misses and one good one. Usually it's the other way around. I might try to keg my next one so I can control the carbonation better. I also need a brown ale recipe that is good.

I’ve also found a good brown ale is challenging. My next version will use less chocolate and maybe even less brown malt in it. I was discussing this with @dave_77 the other day. I’ll get there.
