hi folk,
brewed a great 40 pints lager now on to tom claxtons real ale.do anyone have experience with this what did it turn out like??????????

Used to brew lots of these using the full hop sachet and they turned out okay, comparable with Youngs or Geordie kits.

Hi,

I have one that's been conditioning for 10 days and it's really nice beer. I also used the full hop enhancer sachet and it gives it a nice bitter finish. I used all spraymalt and had a an FG of 1014. Let me know if you want to know anything else. I'd definately do this kit again.

ive done two of the best bitter , with the hop sachet , and tey were very good, although both tasted different..... :wha:

the 1st one was ideal, nice and smooth with a bitter after taste.....

the second one i did had a lemony taste, with the bitter taste coming later ...?

i will be getting a couple of more of these...bargins at 10 quid each.... will probably short brew one with some dark unrefined sugar....

hi artyb,
Is shortbrewing just reducing the number of pints you brew to? or does it relate to the brewing time?
Also, have you experimented with different sugars before? I'm wondering whether to use candy or just regular sugar for a wheat beer i'm about to do.

Hi,
i just bottled tom caxton real ale yesterday after leaving the first stage for a week at 21degrees. used full hop sachet. hydrometer reading wasnt as low as it shouldve been but was steady over 3 days and there were no signs of bubbles so decided just to go ahead. only my second attempt so i dont really know, should i have left it for longer? :hmm: we'll see how it turns out, i'll let you know in 4 weeks and counting. let me know how yours goes

Hi stevander, mine didn't go as low as expected either (only 1014), but I was informed this was due to me using all spray malt. After 10 days in the bottle this beer is already really nice.

Cheers for that bishopsfinger :thumb: put my mind at rest a bit. however it turns out im sure it'll get drunk and i'll get drunk

Just cracked open the first couple of bottles of my Tom Caxton Dark Ale which I bottled about three weeks ago, it's a little young but I have to say, exactly as the guy at the shop said, just ignore the label, it's a good kit! I used half a sachet of hops and I think that given another ten days to two weeks, it'll be cracking! :drink:

I remember making a tom caxton real ale kit, was the last kit i ever made. it didnt work very well for me it just never cleared, tasted good but didnt look very nice.

Yes adding sugar will raise the ABV but unless you are going to try and make it way past the 4% you should not need a different yeast
