I’ve yet to face the shops, but thankfully have long being in the habit of buying stuff I don’t need so have several years worth of purchases of random dried goods to use up.

As for panic buying the Extent of it for me is getting my next home brew order in now rather than towards the end of April/early May (As concerned a lot of the suppliers will have to close before too long).

I wouldnt worry too much about online HBS. If you go to any of the usual suspects they're saying to be patient with delivery times as they have have a big increase in demand. It's high street shops that dont sell food that are in trouble because due to social distancing and worrying about spending money on stuff other than food. Many high st shops are completely empty

I saw this on twitter earlier i wonder how long a pie shop will be classed as essential.



The GREGGS bakery chain has offered to provide frontline emergency service staff with free drinks during the Coronavirus outbreak.

A spokesman for the chain said: '"Greggs has a long-standing history of supporting the communities that we serve."

To get the free drink, those working in the frontline will be asked to show their work pass as proof of their profession.

Greggs added that it would keep it shops open for as long as possible but this depended on Government advice.

McDonalds are doing exactly the same

MrMQ just came back from a walk/shopping trip. She walked down one of Peckhams most trendy/hipster streets, Bellenden Road. She reports that all the yummymummy's/hipsters have bought alcohol/food from the nearby shops and are sitting on the benches outside the pubs socialising as if nothing is happening - FFS you twats. GO HOME!!

Tell you what McQul this forum is going to be pretty busy with all the self isolation and work closures i think there is more to come because I think(not 100% sure) but last night when Boris was doing his speech he said that Pubs,Restaurants and Gyms etc would close as of friday night he then handed the lectern to the Chancellor and I think he slipped up about what they had been talking about for future plans as (I think) he said the words all non- essential businesses would close which Boris did not announce

We will see early next week if he closes all non-essential shops? if that is what I heard but then again it could have been a senior moment

Our GP is doing appointments via video call. Good for those that can.

Took the family for a spin in the car earlier, we wanted to see the sea. 17 mile spin to the nearest town to stare at a beautiful calm sea. The town was bouncing tho. Loads of people out walking along the prom 50% of them over 65 years old. Morrison's car park seemed empty tho. Not sure why people ate going about it like nothing is on going. The skate park must have had over 20 children playing about.

I wouldnt be surprised. The government are doing stuff but very slowly. As if they dont want to scare the horses (or perhaps the markets?) and cause a massive panic

I think the whole reason they are telling the public in small soundbites is not to scare the sheeple too much in one go.
Also think it is a cunning move for Greggs & others to donate drinks just to keep the doors open for themselves if they can claim they are in some way essential or helping the effort.

I don't think we we will be seeing food shortages in shops for long - I give it another 2 weeks before it sort of looks normal again, at least that is what I am hoping, but what may happen is items will not be replaced that are normally imported, things such as Rice, as America goes into panic buying mode.

I agree with a lot of what you say there, richie. As mentioned earlier my local ASDA seems to be getting back to normal today after the carnage of earlier this week. They haven't restocked chopped/plum tomatoes though as I read these come from italy. Most pasta comes from italy too but I didnt look in that aisle to see if there was any restock as I dont eat pasta. I believe a lot of the rice that comes to Europe comes from places like pakistan/india so we should be ok for that. Americans are panic buying ammunition at the moment, it's apparently very scarce - like they need any more guns and ammo!

No.1 Son just phoned after going shopping at his local Tesco in Galashiels.

Apparently there were dozens of "Bombay Bad Boy" Noodles on the shelf so, being pretty hooked on them, he stuck three in his trolley.

At the Checkout the lass told him "Sorry, but you are only allowed two noodles." and removed one of the offending articles.

No.1 Son immediately tore off the third banana from the bunch he was about to hand over and placed it with the noodles. He handed the other two bananas over without comment and then took a long hard look at the 500g bunch of grapes he had in his basket.

Apparently he was allowed more than two grapes because the lass passed them through check-out without comment!

This is the problem and it was highlighted by one of the big wigs in the news the other night due to all the stats about them not being at as much risk as the olds they think they are invincible but what the idiots are not getting is they could kill their parents or grandparents or both, i think its time the police were given powers to break up any gatherings however small.

Taking my town as an example we have lots of coffee shops, cafes, cloths shops, gift shops, estate agents, charity shops, computer shops, hair dressers (we have loads of them) nail bars, antique shops, florists and jewellers i think these will all be closing soon.

I think thats why he put the 80% pay deal on the table before starting to close everything down to stop mass panic.
