In other words they are all massaging the figures, would you believe it.

The figures for UK and Italy are not massaged, they are the best available! Please remember that the reporting is subjective and many death certificates will list the cause of death as perceived by the attending GP. It's always more cock-up than conspiracy.

I see they're finally bringing in mask wearing on public transport on 15/6 why not tomorrow, why not in March and still no masks in supermarkets. I wear a mask and gloves when I go shopping very few others do. As for 14 days quarantine for arrivals again why not in March.

Financial Times has free access to their Covid-19 charts and articles. They have excess deaths for many countries. UK has nearly 60,000 deaths in excess of the normal rate. This is 65% more than before Covid-19.

Italy has nearly 47,000 excess deaths which is 47% more than before Covid-19.

So we are doing worse than them!

You miss the point which is that we are the best (in the world) at doing worse than them or anyone else for that matter!

Insisting on face coverings for all users of public transport is a no-brainer. It might do some good, but can't possibly make things worse. But why two weeks' delay? I don't get it! A face covering could be a scarf or a homemade mask or anything. Which reminds me, anyone watched Aliens recently?

I see the governments track and trace app won't be fully functional until September. Have they got anything right?

Was the lack of technical advisors at yesterday’s Downing St briefing a staged boycott, or the Conservatives cutting out their critics?

Matt Hancock was so out of his depth, it was cringeworthy.

Does anyone report on the COVID 19 app?

Friend of mine uses it, and just sent me this screenshot.

It has over 3.8 million users and appears to conflict with the ONS’s figure of 5,600 daily cases of COVID19.

I report for me and my wife. They have asked if I would do a swab test if I were to become infected.

As predicted easing lockdown is already raising the R number but what is the alternative, businesses are already having to lay off staff and will not survive if lockdown is not eased soon and the government cannot continue to pay staff to stay off work with no end in sight, as a vaccine could be many months away where do the government go from here.

Brits could face localised lockdowns as outbreaks rear up in coronavirus hotspots, sparking second wave fears,

Scientists are warning the government to prepare for a deadly second peak of Covid-19, as officials mull localised lockdowns.

The reproduction rate of the virus - known as the 'R' - is higher in some parts of the UK than others, with new estimates suggest the R is between 0.7 and 1.0 in England, 1 in the South West and 1.01 in the North West.

The emerging challenge has led Health Secretary Matt Hancock to caution yesterday that parts of England could face stricter lockdowns as Britain's official death toll passed 40,000.

Top scientists say the Government must hold an inquiry into coronavirus pandemic plans now to prepare for a potential second wave this winter.

In an open letter to the Guardian, top doctors and scientists described government policymaking and health defences as ill-prepared for a second strike.

I wonder if they'll lock london down again if we get a second wave, as London is the engine of the UK economy (for better or for worse). I imagine the government would be reluctant to lock it down after only just opening it up again. I bet they would far more happy locking down the north if there's a second wave their rather than London and the SE

I agree M, if it goes above 1 pubs and places that serve food (excluding takeaways) are going to be screwed people will not want to visit, i for one will not be going anywhere near one until this virus has long gone, thank **** for home brew.
