Hey guys,

I'm going mental trying to figure out if some bits I have will work for my boiler.

I'm using a 70L nordic. I have a 1/2" ball valve (female at both ends) and I have a tank connector (http://www.screwfix.com/p/tank-coupler-15mm/82376) and really was wondering if and how I might be able to use these keeping in mind I am going to want a hop strainer at one end.
I am hoping I can use these bits as I have them spare so would save £££ but if I need any other bits then again, any help on what I need would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

KMC

Quite easily.
Get a short piece of 15mm copper pipe and fit it between the tap & the tank connector, if you want to you can file out the inside of the TC and fit a longer piece all the way through to connect to your hop strainer (I just push fit mine inside)

For pics have a look at my MT conversion the the how to area.

well done with the filling hairybiker.. I found it easier to get a 15mm blacksmith drill bit from ebay for not much more than a fiver..

drilling thru the brass tank connector was very easy allowing any length of copper pipe to be inserted thru the tank connector.

Has anyone tried making one of these?,it's made from a sieve, folded and sewn with stainless steel wire.

Cheapest option AFAIC, is to use a 1/2"BSP Male to 15mm straight adaptor.
Use a compression fitting, item# 6671 from BES.
Fit this to a short length of 15mm copper pipe. File or drill out the tank connector as perviously mentioned.
Connect the ball valve to the 1/2"BSP adaptor; run the pipe the thro' the TC.
Fit your chosen design of hop filter to the pipe, probably via an end-feed 90degree elbow to get it to the bottom of yer boiler.

I use something similar, I got a "oven chip basket" from poundland (my favourite brew store ;) ) it is food grade "plastic" wire mesh. I removed the crimps at the edges and folded it over my hop strainer (a piece of 22mm copper with 4mm holes in it) then sealed/closed it using threaded tinned copper wire. I tried strainer's but they weren’t SS or at least the cheap ones weren't high grade so got rusty after one use. This has now been used twice and only "issue" is the hop seeds get through the mesh (2mm ish)

i use a length of 25mm stainless steel memory wire tube

the tube mesh has holes about 3mm judged by eye.

the original design i copied also employed 2inch lengths of copper tube butted tightly together within the wire tube.
i havent done that as yet, but have noticed no hop debris in my wort.
