The instructions rarely say add spray malt just 1kg of dextrose.

For my first batch I used 50/50 of each well maybe a bit more sugar but hey wanted a bit stronger than the 4.8% advertised.

Anyway its coming up to 3 wks in primary fv and it appears really cloudy and pretty excited (bubbly) as I opened the tap to draw a sample to test sg. Altho being at the bottom the tap is pretty close to all the sediment on the bottom (reason why?) :?

So is this not ready? its been pretty cold generally prob 19 in day and 15 at night (room temp)

Does using spray malt increase chances of sediment? :hmm:

I want to get the next 2 batches in soon as but want a bit more feedback because I dont want to wait till I ve tasted mine

I shoud add I ve done better brew czech pilsner and my next 2 are brewery classics czech pilsner and a coopers pilsner so all very similar. :thumb:

Have you taken a hydrometer reading?

If it is steady at 1012 or below for a couple of days then its ready to bottle/keg.

I normally do 1 week in a primary FV and 1 week in a secondary the bottle. :D

well.. what did your SG reading say? That's the best way to tell if it's done, for sure. What was your OG to start with?

Temperatures - depends on the yeast, but if I recall most pilsner/lager yeasts want temps a bit colder than ales. WL800 optimal temps are between 10-13 C.

I don't think spraymalt increases chances of sediment, that'd have more to do with amt of yeast at the bottom, along with fats/proteins from the fermenting process. So I would guess a higher gravity beer would just tend to have more sediment than a lower gravity one, regardless of whether it was made with spraymalt or all grain.

I use dme in all my kits and dont have any issues, you might want to check what yeasts your kits have, as i know the coopers pilsner has a lager yeast, but i dont think the better brew pilsner does, that will make a big difference temp wise

I use 1 kg of spray malt in all "standard 20l+" kits, and sometimes also for priming
Dextrose i use smaller amounts just to raise alcohol when needed (never more then 300-400 g though)
I think its much better then dextrose, even if its more expensive. For me its woth the extra money...

BTW, in those Better Brews i´ve done, i had a thick layer of yeast sediment when it was done
Dont think spray malt adds any sediment as long as it gets fermented.
The BB yeast is queit good and lively
