Hmm there's these... Flensburger Pilsener German Pils 330ml Bottles - 4.8% ABV - Beerhunter
(it says 330, but I think they are 440)

They are definitely 330, I have about 30-40 of them that my mates and I “borrowed” from my local Wetherspoons and use them for my 6.5%+ beers

I like the Hacker Pschorr Kellerbier they sell in larger M&S stores and have a few of those swing tops.

I ordered 24 Hacker-Pschorr. I got a mix of Munich dunkel, hefeweizen, and kellerbier. They arrive on Tuesday.. can’t wait!

Obviously a bit limited by the relatively few brands that do swingtops. But a lot of the normal wheat beer bottles are reusable ones, so very good for homebrew too

No problems with customs / import duties? I always thought it was impossible to order beer from Europe without getting stung for fees?

I think we are, but I'm sure there were always issues with ordering booze even from within the EU.

I found the following via Google

Alcohol of European Origin
Most goods which originate from any member European of the EU, have the luxury of not incurring any charges of duty and / or VAT. That, however, does not apply to excisable goods, such as Alcohol and Tobacco products, etc.

Excise duty must be paid on all alcoholic drinks before it can be released into Free Circulation for resale or any other commercial use. (The exception being when small amounts are transported by an individual for personal consumption, and is under the Personal Allowance limit).

Our allowance for Beer is 110 litres but I suspect the phrase "transported by an individual" by be a key one.......so as I said earlier I'll know the answer on Tuesday when the order arrives!

Looks like you are fine, as the duty will have been paid in Germany.. Tax and customs for goods sent from abroad

Has anyone ordered from biermarket.de either in response to this thread or in the past?

I e-mailed them on Friday (as they require you to do that before ordering outside Germany) There's been no response the the e-mail so I tried 'phoning them several times this morning but only got an answerphone each time. By contrast web-bier despatched my order promptly on Friday and it's due to arrive by UPS tomorrow.

Update: after leaving them a voicemail (in my less than perfect German) I got a reply to my email a couple of hours later....have now ordered.

I've ordered from them before, had no problem. Bare in mind they will be incredibly busy at this time and also may not work weekends either - so there could well be a bit of a wait for a reply.

One thing I noticed was that the tracking wasn't accurate, but it turned up fine

They have just arrived in a very strong divided cardboard box, together with a few free German beer mats. No extra duty to pay. That's a faster service than we get from on-line shopping with the local supermarkets.

Mine also arrived today, sadly one bottle was broken in transit but the rest are OK and will be sampled during the football later. Was going to complain but one bottle is annoying but not the end of the world. Would definitely do this again!
