Thought I’d give a go at making some wine from red grape juice after using up most of the produce from my allotment.

Bought 6 litres of juice from Asda (2 for £3.50). Keeping one litre bottle back to add to my next batch of blackberry wine.

Recipe
5L red grape juice (1.070 OG)
340g sugar ( to bring to 1.0965)
1/4 tsp citric acid
1/4 tsp tannin
1 tsp nutrient
1 tsp yeast

Initially I only put 4.5 litres of juice into the demijohn with the other ingredients. 1 week later added the remaining juice
Racked 20 days later

Now day 43. Wine is fruity, but not overly sweet. Fresh tasting/bright. Not a lot of depth but pretty decent. I have another DJ made a week later to a similar recipe but with 1/2 tsp acid & 1/2 tsp tannin. It will be interesting to taste the difference.

SG is starting at 1024
Double checked the hydrometer.

A bit low?
I'm not out to make anything super strong but.....

I made pomegranite and white Grape added extra sugar and it tasted like petrol,lesson learned, less is better.

What have you made this in?

Its normally 2.5 litres of juice per demijohn (4.5 litres total) and 1100g sugar total more than that its like alcopop not wine :D

It's going into a glass demijohn after fermenting for a week or so in a plastic tub with an airlock.
I'll strain off the black forest fruits before putting into the demi.
I thought that the starting SG would be higher although I'm not wanting rocket fuel.
Should I add some sugar to pep up the SG??

When you started, the packaging should have said what the sugar content was.
You add all that up, then work out how much extra sugar to add like what chippy said.

If you add neat sugar from the packet now, be careful & add slowly & stir, because if fermentation has started you won't want a foam eruption.

That's way too much juice for a 4.5 litre demijohn its going to be very strong tasting try 2.5 litres next time and compare.

When you started, the packaging should have said what the sugar content was.
You add all that up, then work out how much extra sugar to add like what chippy said.
If you add up all sugars in the cartons then make the DJ up to 1100g total it'll end close to 13% ABV.

Did you bottle it or drink ( slowly ) from the demi-john?
If you bottled; when did you bottle?

I kind of drank it slowly from the DJ; I siphoned it into a bottle and drank it, then repeated until it was all gone (hic). Generally my aim is to make wine and store it in the DJ for about 6 months before bottling. This Asda grape juice wine was a quick experiment to see what a cheap & cheerful juice wine(as opposed to my allotment fruit) would taste like. My conclusion is that it is better than most supermarket plonk in the £5-£8 category. I made another batch just over a week ago. Hopefully it will be ready for NYE. I’ve also made some wine from Lidl pressed apple juice. Tastes like very strong cider!!

Currently sitting on my landing unit: 2x Goosberry, 2 x Raspberry, 1 Rhubarb, 1 blackberry, 1 Beetroot, 2 Apple, 1 red grape juice, 1 Ginger.
