September 2019 Competition - American Pale Ales

September is here and that means it's time get your American Pale Ales in. It's a broad category, from traditional APAs, IPAs and DIPAs to new-fangled NEIPAs, Brut IPAs and American sours. Some hoppy entries are expected, so I'll be roping in a couple of seasoned tasters from the Cambridge Hop Heads homebrew club to score the brews alongside the BJCP guidelines and give detailed feedback. Usual rules apply, so PM me for my address and let me know the style and abv (preferably attached to the bottle).

I'd really like to submit a couple of pales I've made, one with Hornindal yeast, but I tend to get very busy and don't post them off in time. I'm down for a maybe. I bottled both beers very recently so will see how they come out.

I currently have an APA carbonating so can probably post towards the end of next week.

Unfortunately my “I don’t need to use my dry hopper in the Fermentasaurus because all the dry hops will settle in the collection bottle” theory doesn’t hold with a 150g dry hop so hopefully there won’t be too much hop debris to create nucleation points. Otherwise it seems very good at bottling!

I'd have loved to enter this one, but I work away and not due home until the 2nd of October. I could enter an APA and DIPA, but only if you're accepting late entries.

My APA is a good’un. I’ll give the bottles an extra 3/4 days in the warm then a cold crash and post Thursday of Friday.

I did when I judged it as well.

I had a Cali Common accepted in the American Pale comp a couple of years back, and it came second.
