My King Keg does not seem able to hold pressure.
Since starting to drink my beer yesterday I have had to put in 4 of those little gas containers to get any sort of head on the beer, surely this can’t be normal.
Is there anything that can be done?

Sounds like you have a leak :( this will be around the lid most likely - you could take the lid off once there is no pressure re-vaseline it and screw it back on and try. Also may be worth checking around the c02 valve for leaks by smearing some washing up liquid around it and checking for escaping gas.

Thanks Wez found the leak, around the pressure release valve, this is all very disheartening.

Here is another one for you, please

i brewed a beer 22 November, the recipe is shown below, i moved it to the secondary after 7 days, i took a hydrometer reading this morning as i was going to keg it and it is at 1020, does this seem right to you?????

5 gallon batch

4.5kg coopers unhopped light malt extract
styrian goldings 45g 90 Mins
Fuggles 30g 90 Mins

Styrian Goldings 15g 15 Mins
Goldings 24g 15 Mins
Irish Moss 1 tsp 15 Mins

Muntons Yeast

first hops put into 2 gallons cold water and bought to the boil.
when water was boiling, put in extract and boiled for 90 mins
last 15 mins of boil added remaning hops and irish moss.

cooled wort then added to 3 gallons cold water in fermenter.
OG 1044
dry yeast pitched at 75 degrees.

You should be able to fix the leak on teh PRV - maybe new rubbers?

I'd say that 1.020 is too high, you should be looking for 1.012 or 1.010 - have you tried rousing the yeast and moving it somewhere a bit warmer?

i have had a brew belt on it, thought this would do the trick and keep the temperature up!!!!!

i will give it a stir and leave it for another week

Lots of brewers have similar issues with Muntons yeast. It often gets a bit lazy and stops at 1020. A good rousing with a sterilised beer paddle will often do the trick. :thumb:

MEB's right, if that fails you could re pitch another sachet of yeast Safale s-04 will sort it out :thumb:

Weird? How do you think you are rubbish yeast????

Try using SO4 from now on. It's a reliable performer and i'm sure you will like the flavour profile and the way it sticks to the bottom. Helping you produce a cleaner and brighter beer. :thumb:

Muntons is ***** really IMO. I had nothing but problems similar to yours when using it.

i am rubbish yeast

have pitched a Safale s-04 to this, only worry is that its in the garage with a brew belt on, took the temp about 3 hours ago it was at 60, seems a bit low, just checked it, nothing yet!!!!!!!!

I am a rubish yeast!!!

Checked the beer 24 hours after throwing in the dry Safale s-04 not a thing going on, so in desperation moved the FV into a warm room, rehydrated another Safale s-04 and threw that in 12 hours ago, checked again this morning, no sign of life at all.

With an OG of 1044 could it be plausable that there is no more sugar in this brew at an FG of 1020???
Should i just give up and keg it?

Sounds to me like you've tried everything you can to get the gravity down, s04 normally gets it going.

I'd put that one down to experience and keg it :thumb:
