Wez,

You decided that challanger and golings would work well with the recipie that I posted. As for taste as long as its not overly bitter then i'm good. I will pretty much drink anything, such as london pride, spitfire etc.

What in your experience would give the brew a nice flavour without being too bitter?

Bobo

If you're aiming at 30 IBU's you could try to get 20 IBU from the Challenger in for the full boil and 10 IBU from the Goldings in the boiler for the last 15 mins. Using Beersmiths default AA's for these hops that would be:

25.00 gm Challenger [7.50 AA%] (90 min) Hops 19.7 IBU
45.00 gm Goldings, East Kent [5.00 AA%] (15 min) Hops 11.0 IBU

Obviously when you get your hops you will have to adjust the weights slightly to accomodate their AA's, we can work that out for you here at the time :thumb:

To add a nice hoppy aroma you could add some Goldings or Challenger or both in at the end of th boil while you are cooling, Say 20g, you could add 10g of each?

I think I posted the Big Kenny recipe in the recipe section, that seems to go down well, AT and Frisp certainly liked it.

Cheers for the info Wez :thumb: . I'll be going shopping for a boiler when I get home so will pick up my grain and hops while i'm there. Then i can get to work.

Looking forward to it, and congratulations on your 100th post

What do you all think??

Must admit, I'd prefer to keep it simple for the first AG and just use one or two malts. Personally I'd use the pale malt and the crystal only - can't abide amber  :D

I'd also up the IBU's a bit. I'm not a hop head either but find anything below 0.75 of the gravity a shade nothingy. If your aiming for 1049, I'd go for 36/37 IBU.

Just my opinion. Whatever you do, it's your first AG and will is sure to taste fantastic however it comes out. Enjoy :thumb:

Bobo, if you still wish to come over, you're more than welcome - I'll be brewing one day next week or the week after. Maybe both if I can empty some of these kegs
