Northern Brewer
Landlord.
I brewed an extra stout yesterday that I have brewed before, the only major change to the recipe was a reduction in pale malt from 14kg to 11.5kg. As I'm a bit remote my visitors tend to drive and hesitate to sample high ABV beer so I thought I would keep it down to a reasonable level.
Looking at diastatic power the average works out to 70 lintner per kg of grain so I would have thought that I would get around 1056 OG but I ended up with 1046.
I'm not too worried about the OG, more the effect of any unconverted starch. Its in the FV and fermenting now, I haven't tested it with iodine, its as black as sump oil so not sure if I will see the colour change
Anybody guess what it will turn out like?
Cheers
Andy
