checked the gravity....1032??
Did you work out why the OG was so low? Did you forget to add half the base malt or something?

It's just going to be as weak as p*ss.
Nowt wrong with low strength beers - my latest Stout has over attenuated by a point I think and come out a monster 4.0% ABV🤪, and my next brew has a planned monster OG of about 1.037 🤪

(Mind you, with your track record if you use your usual amount of priming sugar it'll end up around 8% ABV anyway 😜😜😜)

Nothing wrong with low strength beer if that's what your going for! 😀 Don't think it'll have quite the body of your stout/porter. 🙁

Not sure what the problem is... it did seem quite a thick mash, but not overly so. I just don't think this malt very good.

personally I’d say If it looks good and tastes fine then leave it as it is: on the plus side, you’ll be able to drink a LOT of it in a session athumb..

I left it in the end. I'm going to use this beer as a bit of an experiment, cold crashing, dry hopping without bag etc, see how it comes out, nothing to lose really.

Late one bottling up my 'hazy' simcoe and cascade pale ale. First things first, I'm not sure that the oat addition has given it that hazy look....also my 'light's crystal wasnt as light as advertised, I had my suspicions on mashing in.

That disappointment aside I think this has turned out rather well. The yeast attenuated well, getting the fg down to 1006 making it an unexpectedly poky 5.3%. Its hoppy, lots of piney flavour and plenty of cascade which I find dificult to describe. It's also got a sweet finish which must be the crystal and seems to work

I finished up one bottle short so had a pint of it out of the fv, tasty!

I got 40x 500ml bottles and I boiled 110g sugar in 240mls water and added 5meals to each.

What were the 5 meals and how did you get them into the bottle?😂

A 'Sessionable Wheat' from James Mortons book.

3.2kg Otter
1.7kg Wheat
400g Oats

25g simcoe @20
25g amarillo @15
25g simcoe @10

50g amarillo and 50g simcoe hopsteep, 30 mins at 75c.

Took forever to cool, eventually pitched US05. 18l in the fv at an og of 1060, so I liquored back with 2l making it 1054.

Nice! Don’t you have a counterflow?

Yes I do, but two things, the water temp has risen a bit and the other is that one of the connections is a bit loose and if I have the flow too fast it'll pop off. One of those things that I keep meaning to fix but never get round to it. 😁

My wife will be so excited to find out i've started another brew when she comes home..... :laugh8:

This time a coconut stout, scaled back to 10l i've copied this recipe LAB Coconut Porter | Beer Recipe | American Homebrewers Association but i couldn't resist the urge to tinker, I want it with more body than I think this one will give me so i'm adding in 200g oats and some lactose near the end of the boil! Hops remain the same. Dessicated coconut will be added after high fermentation ends (roughly 7 days) and then left for a further 2 weeks. Yeast will be good o'l us05 again.

Do you get the same speechless response I get when you put a brew on? I can only guess that the dropped jaw and look of disbelief is astonishment and admiration at my persistence to keep the fermentation fridge fully employed.
:confused.:

Bottled my English IPA last night, am fg of 1010 gives it a whopping 2.8% abv!!! I dont really like the look of it, it's very murky, the sample tasted bitter and thin... so I bottled 15 bottles and chucked the rest, heresy I know but I cant see myself drinking this.

In other news, I chucked 200g of toasted dessicated coconut into the fv on sunday, I give it a decent shake every day and it's starting to settle on the bottom, will leave this for another 12 days.

For some reason I imagined you were adding big chunks of coconut - would be entertaining at least watching you trying to shove them through the neck of the carboy! 🤣

By the way, do you use carboys for everything? I've always just used buckets because that's what I've always used - still seems strange to see something different.
