Many moons ago I was goods in receiver (didn't want to say backdoor man) at a supermarket.
This was a chain that while they had a main head office delivery there were still other suppliers that had to be signed in and loads checked.
Plenty of suppliers had various "branded" own label goods on their vans...all made in the same place.

  • Early years: Rediffusion's cable TV system was based on technology from telephone networks. The TVs used were basic sets without a tuner, and the radios were essentially loudspeakers with a volume control.

  • 1963: Rediffusion reached one million cable subscribers worldwide.

  • 1968: The first VHF coaxial cable networks were introduced.

  • 1969: Color was introduced on all channels.

    • 1972: Community Cable TV was licensed in several British towns.
    • 1976: The first application of fiber optics in cable TV was introduced in Hastings.
    • 1980: Rediffusion operated five of the 13 subscription channels issued by the UK, under the name Starview.
    • 1986: Rediffusion trialled their new System 8 in Guildford.
    • End of the 1980s: Rediffusion abandoned the cable TV and radio distribution system.

I did the first trial of youth opertunity scheme with Redifusion in 1982 at Preston. After completing the 6 months I was taken one and carried on working for them until they were bought out by Granada tv rentals. Preston was a regional workshop for the north West.
