A friend of mine is considering starting homebrew. He's spotted this offer on Beerhawk:
https://www.beerhawk.co.uk/brewery-in-a-box-essential-starter-kitWhich looks to be great for a newbie. His only concern is that the included kit is out of date.
Obviously he doesn't know how out of date it is, but if it's say 6 months out should it all be going in the bin? Is it worth brewing, should he just buy some fresh yeast from Wilko and go from there?
 
The hardware alone is quite complete, and the yeast should still be able to ferment an average strength beer like this. If less than a year old, it should be good to go.
